Heart rate Monitor Stuff

Hello all,
I have just purchased a new computer, which has a HRM.
Now I've just got back in to cycling after a 5-year lay off. I've always had computers but never had the money to buy a HR.
So what I need to know now is? How do I find my max heart rate? And how do I use it to help me get my fitness up, and get more out of my cycling.
I'm a 43 year old, 5'10, 14.5 to 15 stone male who is currently doing 40 miles over a hilly Hampshire downs ride, at an average of 15 mph. I would like to get fitter so I can do some longer sportive and/or Audax rides next year and beyond.
Any help very much appreciated.

See this link for details on how to find your MHR:

Then you can work out what your heart rate should be for any of the various suggested training zones:

Depending on what you are trying to achieve from your training will influence what mix of training and heart rate zones you need to train in.0
