A bit of a shock this morning when I stood on my bathroom scales, so I'm going to have to get a grip and lose some excess lbs. My plan is to lose something like an average of 2 lbs a week. A total of 20 lbs over 10-12 weeks.
Weight this morning 195 lbs
Target weight same time next week 192 lbs
Anyone care to join the club?

Probably to much -raped wight loss just comes back again.Need to go by apperance rather then weight as muscle wighs more then fat
Rather emphasis should be low sugar diet with lots of fruit and vegatable.IN WINTER YOU NEED A LOT MORE CALORIES TO KEEP core temp stable especially on riding
Aim for 0.5 lbs a week more sensible
You dont want a drop in metabolic rate0 -
Caught a tummy bug from my little lad that had me puking and crapping non-stop from 0400 until 1200 last Saturday. I used to weigh 76kg, now I weigh 72.5kg - fastest weight loss programme I've ever been on
What do I ride? Now that's an Enigma!0 -
Weight this morning 193 lbs, a loss of 2 lbs.
Target weight next Friday 190, trying for 3lbs again.0 -
mike what are you eating/not eating and how much riding are you doing in order to lose 3lbs a week?
Gats0 -
Hi mike
I'm about the same weight as you I think  (I'm 6ft, in proportion but just on a bigger scale than the average girl)
Lost 6lb since I started two weeks ago. I've just cut out wine, which probably tells you that I was drinking a wee bit too much.
Good luck - report back same time next week?

Does one lose more weight than during consensual sex then?0 -
I was losing approx 1-2lb a week at the start of the year, I'm just 6ft and wieghed just under 15st. I now weigh just over 13st (I've put on a few lbs over the past couple of months).
I just cut out the cake, chocolate, (i'm tee-total so the alcohol wasn't a problem) only ate three meals a day and rode more.
Feel much better for it as well. Also, it's a lot cheaper to lose this sort of weight from yourself that it would be to remove it from the bike...0 -
I lost almost 4 stone in 5 months in 2003 by joining Weight Watchers. Yeah that's right!
I need to lose another stone or two to get to that Rasmussen state of purity though:
Pretty sexy huh.0 -

I lost just over a stone earlier in the year doing pretty much the same as El Capitano, cutting out the crap.
Instead of normal chocolate, normal crisps, normal coke etc..... which I ate quite a lot of! I went to the low fat/calorie alternatives (it was quite good fun trying to find alternatives that tasted nice!). I also cut down the amount of beer I drank and fast food I ate, and ate more fruit. Apart from that I ate normally.
On top of that I went to town with the training.
I lost weight with less effort than my Mum and gf who were both on weight watchers (although my gf didn't really want or need to lose more than 7lbs).
The good thing is I've managed to keep my weight stable since even with 2 months of little or no exercise due to injury.0 -

I find losing weight hard because I like to eat; and I eat to help deal with issues (problems) other than just because I'm hungry. There's something hugely gratifying about eating a good meal, and I like to replicate that feeling when I'm feeling low. Normally I can deal with it sufficently to maintain the status quo but for me to lose weight involves pain and committment.
I know that to be at my best on the bike I need to lose another 17lbs by next spring. So part of my committment is to declare publicly what I'm going to do - here on this forum. The other involves discipline which results in pain. I am reducing my carb intake (smaller portions) , and I'm missing the odd lunch or two and having just a banana or orange to eat.
I envy people who find this sort of thing easy. I certainly don't.0 -

I was drinking two glasses of wine every evening and I too have now cut that out. Keep up the good work0 -
so what am I doing wrong cos I can't shift this weight :?: I train before breakfast, then get in and have a bowl of cereal and fruit have fruit as snacks throughout the day. Have one good quality black coffee and a small biscotti. Have soup and rice cakes for lunch and then have a good diner usually followed by fruit salad. then have 2 low fat digestives and a low calorie hot chocolate in the evening. I allow myself 1 cake/muffin a week and a large non fat cappuccino - on sundays after club rides. I dont drink. I dont smoke. I dont eat chocolate anymore. I dont touch fast food.
I'd like to lose half a stone to get to 11 so any pointers would be appreciated.

The devil is in the detail. What does your "good dinner" consist of?0 -
a portion of protein - either chicken fish or Turkey hardly ever red meat, a good amount of mixed veg and a portion of starch/carbs - usually wholewheat pasta, brown rice or sweet potato hardly ever normal potato in any form.

Ex track and field and Netball coach. Both sets always worried about their weight. Much better they worried about fat % and muscle mass. Muscle is heavier but not so bulky. Fat is full of energy but hard for the body to burn.
Try exercise on an empty stomach or after small intake of caffeine. Low intesity stuff though, nothing over 75% effort.
If you exercie hard with no fuel the body may start to metabolise the muscle for fuel.
Do the wt loss gradually, usually if you cut out the crap between meals and the booze it comes down anyway.
If you diet and then put the wt back on chances are you lost muscle in the first place and then replaced it with fat. Yo Yo time and down hill from here.
Don't forget you look great anyway!0 -

I seem to remember that you so some amazingly high mileage each week. Perhaps you're not eating enough and you're metabolism has slowed in order to cling onto those valuable calories?
Just a thought.

I'm 6'5 I started work in april after 6 months off (inc 1 month in NZ living it up) at 17 stone and I've been cycling to and from work nearly every day and hitting the gym 3-4 times a week. I'm now down to 15 1/2 without particularly curbing my lifestyle... which is nice

I dunno popette I seem to be always eating cos 'm always hungry but try to stave off the hunger by eating fruit. I dont get it I've gained like 5-7lbs and it doesn't seem like muscle cos I still feel like (and look to me) like I have a layer of unsighlty fat on myself.
Dunno what else I can do other than eat less and move more?
Gats0 -
Gats,
Try drinking water when you feel hungry , sometimes depresses the hunger.
Not easy to suggets stuff specifically but you could go to a dietician?
Rough calculation for calorie burn. 1.5 caloires per kilo of body wt per hr when stiitng around versus up to 8 calories per kg per hr flat out training. If you know how many you take in you can roughly work out what you burn too and check the difference.0 -

Haven't you been down this slippery road before? You're thin enough, be happy dude!Fckin' Quintana … that creep can roll, man.0 -
yeah I know 11.5stone at 6ft is probably OK but you know when you look in the mirror and you dont see a thin person? Or that you know two months ago you were 10.7? Or you see a picture taken a couple of months ago and you just look thinner? Its hard to convince yourself that you're not fat because everything is telling you you've gained weight despite your best efforts.
And the worrying thing is this - if I am maintaining my weight doing what I'm doing if I stopped imgaine the gain! Seems a little unfair when everyone around me eats about the same as me but doesn't do the exercise and still maintains.
Anyway thats pos OT and thread hijacking.

Gats, don't lose anymore. That sounds way under what you should be for 6ft. I know for my height and build (6ft/big - really I do have big bones and size 11.5 feet!! oh, and hands like shovels too  ) I should be just over 13st to be healthy.
My fighting weight - when at the height of my athletics career was about 12.5 stone and people were telling me to eat more.
Just my opinion but I would have thought you were absolutely fine as you are and could well afford to put on a bit and still be healthy.
Popette x0 -
Gats, I agree with Popette, you sound way skinny.
Pop, did you use the Timperley track when you were into Track and Field?
Cold, wet and gritty! Saw someone head the shot there during a decathlon 25 years ago.0 -

As someone who was around on the old C+ forum, I remember that you had serious problems with this a year or so back. From your recent posts here and in the training forum, it sounds like the problem is back. Please think about getting some help.0 -
So riding bikes is much safer then?
As well as helping with wt loss.....got to dash and cook the kids tea.0 -
I've mentioned this in the beginners area, but I am nearing the end of a mamouth weightloss programme. I am currently 14st 3lbs, but earlier this year I was 24st 6lbs.
Rather than try to lose the weight in a 'healthy' way of 1lb a week, I decided to skip at least three years of dieting and went onto the Lighterlife programme in consultation with my GP. This is not for the faint hearted. I have lived on 500 calories a day for the last 7 months or so but am now within half a stone of a healthy BMI. Considering I was morbidly obese when I started I am delighted.
However, this has affected my metabolism. I am now permanently cold and have been for months. Since my body thinks it's starving it tries to save energy. If I am not careful when I return to food even a normal amount of calories will increase my weight.
In a normal person it takes around nine months to get your metabolism back up to speed once it has been depressed, however, this can be accellerated though hard exercise. This is one of the reasons I have taken up cycling again.
I know these types of diets have problems, and I have definitely also lost muscles mass which needs rebuilding (think Lance Armstrong ) but I am in a much better position now than I was before. A friend said I'd better watch in case I got an eating disorder to which my reply was, "I'm over 24 stones, I already have one".
Here's a before and (nearly) after - http://guineasblog.blogspot.com/2007/11 ... y-six.html I've blogged my entire journey, from before starting the programme right up until now. Putting this in public has helped keep me motivated, I recomend it.0 -
Respect, Guinea, and you are quite right about the body's (brilliant) way of dealing with calorie deficit by becoming even more efficient at storing energy. If you binge eat and binge diet you end up with a body even more determined to store fat than it was before.
Anyway, a few years ago I cycled 2500 km across Europe with a couple of mates. They both lost pounds on the trip; their clothes were hanging off them. I left I as a 15 stone montgolfier, and I arrived I was a 15 stone lump of muscle with a bit of a paunch. So unfair!0 -
I hurt my back trampolining and over the course of 6 weeks I put on 10lbs through not commuting the 200 miles a week for work ! When I move to Sydney in 6 weeks, I look forward to getting back out in the warm and burning off a few calories. If only the legs were as good as the bike....0
