I thought he looked suspiciously at home on that bike, even if he does like to spin like a loony.
I'm only concerned with looking concerned

He's a bit of a cyclist and cycles frequently.

Like how he described the bike at the beginning....5 piece monocoque frame....doesn't that make it a cinquecoque!!!

Yes, I noticed that, too but I'll forgive him this minor error for beating Mr Clarksonin his powerboat.

  • He was getting pissed off with red lights and said because he was being filmed he stoped at reds. Then quickly added he did usually anyway.

I've heard he likes to keep fit and do a bit of cycling aswell.
He had a camelback for water so maybe that botle was spare.

All in all I thought it was great and was cheering him on.

Can we look forward to seeing lardarse Clarkson testing a 'Full on MTB' and the Stig attempting a record climb of Ventoux?
Seriously if you wanted more proof of the utility of cycling in cities you'd need to look a long, long way. Even Clarkson's E type motorboat was no use.
Maybe they'll change the name to 52-11

Can't imagine Clarkson on a bike. Road-testing a new iPhone in the fast lane seems more his style.

Being top gear I thought that the BBC would have decked Hammond out with a good bike. :? Why wasn't he riding a super light-weight machine from Storck costing about £7,000 instead of the £1,700 one was on. Still, even with the middle of the road road-bike it was gratifying to see Clarkson whupped.

Didn't one of his fellow cyclists blast past him and say that the reason he wasn't going very quickly was because he had bandy legs? Bit harsh I thought.

What do I ride? Now that's an Enigma!

i thought it was excellent! I was willing him on so much!

What bike was it? Do you reckon it was his own bike?

I reckon someone here should write to the BBC and ask for the route and how long it took him, we should all try to replicate it and beat his time :D

    Top Gear
    Wednesday 14 November
    7:00pm - 8:00pm
    BBC2
Motoring magazine. This week, the presenters compete in an epic race across London: Jeremy in a speed boat, James in a car, Richard on his push bike and the Stig on public transport. Richard races the new Aston Martin V8 Vantage convertible against a jet powered roller skater and Jeremy track tests the insanely fast Caparo T1 road racer. The 'tw@t in a reasonably priced car' is Simon Cowell.

If you want the route - you could tape the repeat and then pause when they show the map and compare it with an AtoZ map. Just an idea.

It certainly cheered me up. We tend to give these guys a lot of stick on this forum, but you have to admit, they showed a great sense of humour when "rationalising" the results of their test.

That means waiting till Wednesday and hoping that the Sky box manages to not crash between setting the recorder and the show being on (chances ~0).

I also like how the auto censor wrecked my James may impression.

There's an image here but it doesn't mark the route so it'll have to be a request to the BBC (who'll probably withold it on H&S grounds).

Most of it is clear from watching the show:

    From memory:
Start: Kew, Hammersmith Broadway, Kensington High St, Knightsbridge, Picadilly, Trafalguar Square, Northumberland Av, Victoria Embankment...

Then: Upper Thames St?, Lower Thanmes St?, The Hwy?...

However, did they say on the show how long they took?

  • I though it was a really great show too. Hammond looked to comfortable on that bike for it not be a) his own and b) a complete novice. He also wasn't completely haggard at the end of it. However Clarkson looked utterly wrecked having run 50 or so meters to the check in desk!

It was really strange for a bicycle to get kudos on a car programme. We're the Bain of most car drivers lives!
    Every winner has scars.

bike looked too big for him and he had bandy legs and a toes down pedalling style. I think he has his own MTB for London use and that was a bike loaned to him. Good that they used the Hamster and not some lycra-wearing, leg-shaved roadie as it made the point that you don't have to dress up like a weirdo to beat cars across town.....
Plus if he can be seen to have done that after his serious car accident/head injury then it has more resonance to the ordinary man in the street doesn't it?
