Constantly Tired

Can anybody help!?!?!? I'm constantly tired, struggling to get up in the morning and never felling good after a nights sleep. I get about 6 1/2 - 7 1/2 hours a night but still cant seem to get re-freshed. My diet is good (but like everyone else could be better at the moment) I've lost the will to get out and ride or train at the moment as by the end of the day I just want to curl up and fall asleep. My body, legs mainly, constantly ache and lately I've even noticed that running up stairs quickly kills me!!! I've been to the doctor but no help as just told me to have a break. Any advice would be good. Next thing I'm going to try is the fitness test capability on my polar hrm (although I know it's not exactly accurate)

Hi, I had a similar experience of being tired and not refreshed after sleeping and my doctor refered me to a sleep clinic. After spending a night there they discovered that my sleep was regularly disturbed by twitching of my legs and irregular breathing (ok, snoring). I got a mask to wear when asleep that supplies air at pressure. Although I didn't notice that my sleep was disturbed before I now feel much more refreshed and alert during the day.
One other question. Are you also constantly thirsty and peeing a lot? If so it could be diabetes (something I also suffer from). If so, go to the doctor straight away.
Hope this is of some help.

I think it may be more interesting to know how many hours a day you are working? What job?

How regularly do you eat? Do you skip meals?

When was the last holiday?? DId you relax or did you train like crazy??

How about listening to your body for 2-4 weeks and really take a time out, maybe you need it?? The rest phases of training are just as important as the training itself!!! :?

If you are in the UK (or elsewhere in the northern hemisphere with a correspondingly high Latitude) and your symptoms have only appeared over the past month or so, you may be suffering from S.A.D.(Seasonal Affective Disorder). I used to suffer from the same symptoms as you until I read Winter Blues by Norman Rosenthal and then I bought myself a lightbox - job done!

We need exposure to sunlight. Which reminds me - I'm off out on my bike!

Hi thanks for the help, I work 10 hours a day but it's not very active to be honest, I work as a Police officer in a school, I'm not stressed at all as I've learnt to manage stress quite well.

I eat little and often and it's healthy, I eat a lot of fruit and drink plenty of fluids. Last holiday was only few weeks ago so cant complain there!!! I havent been training hard since approx 2months ago!!!

I thought about diabetes but I havent got the peein a lot or thirst symptoms so I think I'm ok there!

  • Do you have other worries, financial, personal, work etc.?All these can have an effect and take away your energy.
  • As ColinJ indicates, it's possible that it might be a form of depression idiosyncratic to your body. I get like that every mid-September, and things become a bit hopeless for a couple of weeks or so. Every gain in power I've made over summer seems to disappear within a couple of days. Bloody annoying, but I'm almost sure that it's my ultra-sensitive physiology adaptating to a lack of light. Now I just accept it and do tons of base/aerobic work and chuck in the odd interval.

perhaps you've picked up a virus, just taking your body a bit time to get over it?
