Sloboy. If you are wanting a slightly longer head tube as on the Roubaix I would include the Trek 5.2 Performance fit in your list. A 56cm one would give a 55.7cm virtual TT. The seat mast arrangement is much more flexible than an ISP and works well. The pro fit has a 3cm shorter HT but the rest of the geometry is the same. They are light, comfortable and very responsive. And are no longer plastered with Trek and Disco decals. I think they now look quite tastfull.
  • I would include Look. Specifically I would include the new 586. Very light. Meant to be very comfortable. Very beautiful. PLUS it has the e-post which is one of the very few frame innovations out there that actually works.

I will most likely take a spin on a Madone as I have a local Trek dealer and since I'm not used to very light bikes (my Lemond is gravitationally challenged) the more the merrier from the point of view of understanding the options.

I thought I'd maybe avoid the superlightweights - I don't need that last 150-200gms and there seems to be risk of over stiffness as the manufacturers use higher and higher modulus carbon.

It's one of the things that draws me towards the Time VXS (except I see now it has that danged Translink post jobby), the Cervelo RS and Cyfac Cadence as they've used lower modulus carbon and a target frame weight around 1100gm.

On the other hand, it's pretty clear that the manufs have really pushed forward with the use of carbon, so maybe the newer the design the better.

Certainly if you don't want some kind of extended seatpost thingy, better act now because it seems that all new models have them.

My reluctance around them is that the next bike into the garage will be doing a lot of travelling in a box. I guess in due course, the boxes available will get bigger, but it sounds like there's some hassle potential. Although I can see that some of the designs might ease the "overtighten the seat collar" problem.

Cyfac have got Parlee's place on the list (I suppose they got Serotta's as well) cos the Cyfac shop is just up the road, and they are absolutely beautifully finished.

Oh yes - but you're right wm, the C50 has a kind of "grand-daddy of the bunch" aura around it.

When I set out writing the long list, it was the first one on the team sheet.

I feel pretty encouraged though, that a good fit on any of the bikes on that list would be a fabulous ride. And the Ribble is just incredible value in the full builds - 999 for Ultegra, 1325 for DA. It also, coincidentally, is the closest to matching the dimensions on the BikeFit I had a few years ago.
