How much is my bike worth? Please
Hey, well, i'm liking road biking but i've done some hucking (downhilling/small freeride) today and really have a want for a hucker bike, so i'm wondering if i'd get enough for my bike to cover the cost of a DH/FR bike.
Here it is:
Quick spec (from what i can tell)
Bianchi SL Lite frame
Bianchi carbon forks
Bianchi bars and stem
Bianchi brakes
Shimano 105 groupset (think so)
Spinergy wheels, the 300 quid ones.
Awesome condition, maybe 3/4 scratches on the whole bike.
That's all that matters isn't it? Anything else, just ask and i'll find out if it helps.
Putting aside how much i paid for it (very special mates dad getting rid of it price), anyone wanna gimme a rough estimate?

Sorry to be a pain, but enough people have looked at it, and no replies. Just after a ball park figure, or do you lot not want me to stop being a roadie?0
-
It's hard to put a value on a bike as it's only ever worth what someone is prepared to pay for it. A good rule of thumb is that it's worth about half of the new price.
Personally I'd be very cautious of buying a secondhand aluminium frame as you don't know how well it's been looked after. Bianchi have also had major quality control problems in the past ten years too.0 -
250?
Ebay it with a reserve. Then you'll know if anyone wants it.Facts are meaningless, you can use facts to prove anything that's remotely true! - Homer0 -
Damn maddog, 250, i paid 300 because the wheels are worth that much and have only been ridden about 50 miles... if we're gonna go about halving the new price, carbon forks are 75, not sure how much the frame is new but half price maybe 200? Wheels 150-200, groupset 150...
That's pretty saddening. I highly doubt i'll sell it for less than i paid for it, otherwise i'll just be straight up losing money... looks like i'm gonna have to save up about 4 months wages lol.0 -
Then put it on Ebay with a £350 reserve.
That will pay the fees and leave you with £300+
Alternativey strip it down and sell the wheels frame and other components seperately.0 -
I'll try, but it's a waste of money considering the ebay fees will still get taken even if it doesn't sell... It's gonna be like 30 quid? I don't even have that much lol, this bike has crippled the 16 year old part time halfords worker who goes to 6th form, not much income you see0
-
things are worth what people are prepared to pay, simple as.
£300 is a tricky price point because you can buy a shiny new thing for not much more, and get a full warranty/service thrown in.
Ebay fees are less than 10% surely....Facts are meaningless, you can use facts to prove anything that's remotely true! - Homer0 -
best bet is to sell it locally.... go to your cycling local club(s), and put the word around.0

Pity, if you hadn't mentioned the price, you could have advertised on this site and maybe got your 350 quid. For 350 quid it looks like it would be a decent buy - entry level bikes won't have 105 groupset or such wheels.
Good luck in your sale!0 -
Thing is, it's worth a whole lot more than 300, basically, a very good friends dad bought the frame and built it up from there, but rarely used it, so he wanted the shed space (they've got about 10 bikes) and wanted to get rid of it, he had it up for 450 for local sellers but sold it to me cos i came up with the money first...0

It will cost you less than a tenner to put it on ebay with a reserve price.
I've now lost track of what it is you wish to know other than what you have been told
Unless you thought you'd flog it on here.
If so how much do you want for it?0 -
Those wheels dont look like a £300 pair ?0

I'm looking to sell it any way possible. I'd want around 500 for it, as that's most probably half the price of it new. But as much over 350 as i can get really, i don't wanna just sell it cos someone offers me 350, as it's worth so much more.
I also don't know what spinergys i have, all i know is that they're spinergys and he bought them for 300 new, and have only been used for 50 odd miles. How could i find out? Apart from looking at pics for comparison?
Reddragon - I love going fast n stuff, just there's some really good jumps in this forest half close to me, and i had so much fun yesterday, really makes me want one.
Cheers for replies so far.0 -
I've just sold a bike on eBay that would have cost around £1500 new, and I got £440 including postage if that helps!0
-
That's not a good thing, but kinda helps. This bike is in brilliant condition though, which helps, and i don't think it's seen more than 250miles.0
-
A good tip is to have loads of photos. I was only expecting to get around £400 for my bike as the frame wasn't all that new and I had done several thousand miles on it. It's probably not the best time of the year to sell as the weather gets worse. Keep in mind that at this time of year, some shops are selling bikes (old models) with huge discounts.0
-
Very true - might have to get a loan or something for this bike then
Tis a shame, unfortunate that i bought this bike, even though it is cool, i'd still prefer a hucker.
Yeah, if it matters, i'll charge the digital camera up and take some good quality photos, just i quickly took the pic on my phone cos i wanted to show it to everyone0 -
If you keep this up Baggy Pants I'll be buying the bloody bike out of sympathy.0
-
Woahh, do i know you from a different place? No one apart from people on trials forum variates my name lol. Btw, i'm not fat, i used to be when i was like 12, and my mates brother who was 22 at the time (drunken geezer, really funny... to laugh at) called me it, so it stuck.
But please do.
I'm adamant it's worth so much more and that people should pay more than i paid; just because i got it for cheap it doesn't mean it's a cheap bike.0 -
I reckon you should aim for the price of a new entry level road bike, which is £400. Although Halfords sell some cheaper I think £400 is what the majority are priced at. Looking around it seems you would normally get Sora groupset or Tiagra at a push and a cromoly fork or carbon at a push, but probably not both, for £400.
You can ask the price of a new entry level bike for a second hand bike because yours is far higher spec. Does it come with pedals? Shoes? Its easy to justify a bit more. From the photo it looks shiny and new and I think it would be a bargain.
Edit - I don't want to buy it BTW.0 -
I'd be content with 400 - 500 would be ideal though.
Good quality pics, until the microsoft image resizer touched them (just taken) Damn, the pics make it look like there's a lot of scratches, but there isn't, they're just small scuffs that have been made 10x worse

That is a very old Shimano 105 groupset, and there's no way that chain and front chain ring has only done 250 miles!0
-
It looks a bit used in close up photos and bar tape looks a bit grubby but the bar tape is easily sorted. I still think you should approach this from the perspective of what someone would get if they bought brand new.
When I looked for a entry level bike even £400 got a disappointing bike that I would want to upgrade soon. But if I had seen a higher spec second hand one for the same price then I might have bought it instead of going upmarket. I would want to see it first though which is to your advantage I think.
This is also a Bianchi which is a brand of some pedigree not an little known value brand yet the buyer still gets it for the price of an entry level bike.0 -
That means he's probably bought the chainset 2nd hand then...(?) (I'll ask). The rest of the bike is evidently quite unused yeah?
EDIT: Hmm, maybe 250 was an underestimation... Again, i'll ask him about it.
Hmm, the chain and chain ring estimate - what are you judging that on? Grubbiness or actual wear? I'm sure if i gave it a quick wipe over it would reveal a niceness...0 -
There's no way you are going to get £400+ for that bike!! On eBay I'd imagine you'd be looking at £250ish.0
-
Did my buying it for 300 quid sway that decision?
Sorry, i'm very persistant and like to argue my point :P0 -

Hi there.
Fairly irrelevent and random point: that bike looks too big for you in the first place...
Make sure you get fiited properly when you buy your next bike!
Cheers, Andy0 -
Yeah it is a bit, but what can you do. It was going cheap, i wanted/needed a road bike and it was convenient. Hopefully better than buying one from work (Halfords) and having a crap spec for 300.
Hmm, the roadie i work with wants it badly, he's tall, i'll try flog it to him tomorrow lol.0
