From UCI regs:

1. the suspended rider: in case of suspension until the last event counting for the ranking, the rider is immediately excluded from the classification.
Methinks if CONI had read this regulation a bit closer then they would've postponed the hearing until next week - after he'd picked up his ProTour jersey.

If all poor little Danilo has done is to visit the doctor for some paracetamol and , why doesn't he condemn alleged drug dealer Carlo Santuccione?
Instead, we're being taken for fools, with the trusty stock quotes coming out from the Liar: "he advised me on my training plans" and "I've never tested positive".0 -

Ring any bells?

Excuse us for being cynical Whitley. Plenty of us old dogs have witnessed the spectacle of denial and bold excuses before final exposure by the police. So after 100 riders denying everything only to be rumbled in time, when the 101st rider comes along and tries the same defence, some of us might tend to guffaw.0

It's the taking us for fools bit that grates with me, they must think we're stupid. So good luck to CONI and the UCI. CONI keep surprising me recently, in a good way.0

This decision is in full compliance with the rules of the UCI so there's nothing wrong with it in the strictest sense, but it's completely brainless if you actually analyze the situation at hand. That the results of an investigation for alleged offenses in 2004 can strip you of your 2007 season is indefensible nonsense. If the rules are to be applied without more consideration now, they should have been for the last two years and Di Luca should not have raced since he was under investigation.
Rules are rules, but some discerning in applying them never hurts.0 -
I am glad that the UCI has removed him for the competition. He more than deserves it. For an explanation of the whole sordid Oil for Drugs affair, read this:

this is good news...another grand tour winner removed...hopefully scare some other riders as well and clean the sport a bit too.0

It's good news but think about it, it's way bad.
This year has been a disaster. From the protour disaster, to Rasmussen, to signing and firing Basso, to more Fuentes revelations, Vino's positive test and the Astana team, Cofidis quitting the Tour, T-Mobile being exposed, OJ Landis guilty, and now Di Luca gets shaken down. And those are just the highlights...
If you'd predicted this in January, you'd be sedated and driven to a secure clinic. I'm surprized any sponsors are still there.0 -
Well, they've only got themselves to blame from the UCI (especially the UCI) down to the riders. Burying their heads since 1998 was the real error on all parts. They are now reaping the benefits of a hands-over-ears-whistling-while-saying-it's-nothing-to-do-with-me attitude.0
