Hi all, since Ive had my avid juicy 3's, the levber travel is immesnse and wont stop me until the lever hits the bars. I know some people are going to say, bed them in, but when you can hardly stop its kinda hard to bed them in LOL. Anyone know any tips and tricks to sort this out?

Cheers

bleed em, sounds like you have some air in the lines
  • Doesnt seem like air, and they have been bled, its not mushy or anything, just the lever travels way too far. After a ride today, the rear one seemed to sort itself out though.

pump the levers a bit, that sometimes works, or tie a ziptie round it over night or something. this sometimes works too.
I said hit the brakes not the tree!!

A bleed is definately needed. I got a good tip from a SRAM tech guy at a show recently.
Even if you use the proper bleed kit, there are still areas at the back of the caliper where air can hide. So remove the caliper, place it so the bleed port, (banjo connector) is uppermost, and follow the standard bleed procedure.
It works too. I've done 5 sets since I got this tip, and 2 of them were working ok before I bled them. But I still got some air out of them, and the feel improved at the lever quite a bit.

P.S. I've also used this technique on Hayes El Caminos and it worked.
It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.

have you adjusted the lever reach screw?

I bought a brand new pre-bled kit on friday and the reach went right up to the bars, messing with the level reach fixed it. It's the small allen key hole on the pivot in the lever, I had to remove my grips to get to it.

Fantastic brakes now they're up and running, such nice feeling levers and good modulation, leagues ahead of my Tektro Aurigas and old Hayes Sole.
