. . . . . I did that but with 3ft gap to the house wall!! You don't want to do it!
SPD M520's now in a box of parts for the recumbent trike (when I build it)0 -
Oooouch airfriday0

Eugh... i had mine yesterday.
Pulled up in a pub car park just for a breather and a drink... came to a standstill, had my left foot unclipped but somehow managed to lean to teh right... couldnt get unclipped in time and BAM!... on the floor.
Luckilly the only person to see me knew exactly what happened as he is quite a keen MTBr who stopped off for lunch.
Got a big bruise on my knee now.. ouch!0 -
. . . . . . I'm feeling all the pain all over again for you. I know they do work for most but on a 2-wheel bike they don't work for me.
Anyway, all is not lost. My M520's are now fitted to my new Trice-Q trike and will be hurtling off down the lanes any day now. Mmmmm no need to un-clip when I stop!0 -
i think i can claim the prize for the most incompetent: forgot to unclip twice in the same ride! special i know! i reckon i have the damage limitation to a tee now though: i find if i try to lean into the bike then at least it only falls on the handle bars, avoiding too much (physical) pain. the only let down is you still get left with the tell-tale chain mark on the calf, so perhaps further refinement is needed...
oh well, time to go practice!0 -
Managed my first ride without a clipless fall this weekend. 18 miles and no falls.
I nearly went over when two kids rollerskated out of a gate in front of me and I had to screech to a stop and just about managed to get a foot down. As they asked questions about the bike and said how cool it was I was smiling as I pondered on the fine fine line between looking cool and looking like a complete tit.0 -
I don't think i'll have a problem with clips, i can track stand for literally as long as i want on my trials bike, racer isn't that much harder to track stand on :P
Trials ftw.0 -

Trials ftw.
Don't think it's anything to do with balance. It's just that you come to a halt, expecting to step off the bike . . . . and WAM!0 -
Haha, oh right. I'm using the strappy pedals atm and it is a bitttt difficult to get out of them but i always stop near something so i can rest up against it :P0

I think that the main issue here is that you just "forget". You can ride through town un-clipping at every major junction, pedestrian crossing etc etc . . . then suddenly, more likely after a prolonged spell without stopping, you'll see a car backing out of it's drive . . . feeling charitable, you'll stop . . . . YIKES . . . SPLAT!
My favorite was returning home from my 14 mile loop. No need to stop anywhere for the last 5-6 miles. Pulling up at the gate and falling into the house wall. Never again. Returned to platforms on my 2-wheel bikes . . .
By contrast, the SPD's work so well on my Trike. Clip-up as I leave home, un-clip when I arrive at destination. Stop to take photos, have a drink etc, no need to un-clip.
I wish you well . . . but think we'll all be sharing your silly moments further down the page!!!0 -
Ah, you can't beat the sense of panic when you lift your foot but it won't go. The message "Oh, this'll be bad..." travels from foot to brain in about 0.5 nanoseconds. This is directly proportional to the amount of time your mood switches from 'calm' to 'eeeekkkk!!!'...0

recent convert to clipless and first time out made the basic error of uncliping left and leaning right  lay on floor laughing after making sure no one saw me
2nd time i rode into a fence at work that wasnt there the previous time i had been on shift oh well will teach me to open my eyes first thing in the morning lol0 -

OMG I have always had a phobia of my front brakes jamming and now that I have seen that vid it has made me worry about it even more lol.
Anyhoo back on topic.....
I'm pretty new to clipless pedals (I just got them put on my bike about a week ago) but haven't been out on a proper ride with them since i'm still really paranoid.
I actually managed to fall off my bike in my living room. I was showing my mum how u clip in and out. I had one foot clipped out at all times though since figured it would be stupid to clip both my feet in as I wasn't moving, but I leaned the wrong way and landed on my side.
I never felt so stupid in my life. I ended up getting a carpet burn.
I'm sooo not looking forward to my first outside/in public clipped in fall0 -
Been a long in time in coming but it happened to me today after 10 months of cycling.
Mid hill (9%) needed air badly and so stopped for a breather, no problem.
Getting started again though and i couldn't clip back in. Left foot slipped off pedal, speed at omph now. Leaned and fell right!
At least thats my first out of the way now and i can get onto my next.0 -
I did this last week at the track, having just finished, turned into the gate entrance where the track just curves upwards at the start of the bend, unclipped left foot as usual and the camber caused my front wheel right and over I went in front of everyone. What a twonk.0
-
I managed my first clipped in fall last week. I hit a slightly raised kerb stone at too shallow an angle. Bike went left I went right. There is now a hole in my bib longs at the knee and road rash on my elbow.0

There's no dishonour in unclipping your standing foot before you even begin braking.0

We've all done it!
Welcome to the club!
I did it in traffic,
I was following a car with traffic all around to a rounabout very slowly.
I clipped out and rested my foot on the pedal
One last shove on the pedal to stay with the flow, traffic stopped.
'CLICK'
Sh1t, that tarmac looks hard.
Slow Mo fall to the right
Tarmac is hard.
Scrambled up and climbed back on, tried to act as if nothing happened :?
Found a quiet spot to lick my wounds
Few grazes to me and scratches to the bike (Which is the bit I worried about first!)
I can only unclip the right side, left leg won't hold me up ad push off, It was scary looking back, if that car had pulled in alongside...
I have one sided pedals and (now) I unclip and flip it over to try to avoid doing the same in slow traffic. One sided SPDs do have a good side too.Richard

Did the same thing at a set of lights.Wilkie goes up the inside and cue the @rse who stops 2 inches from the curb and the next thing i know i'm picking me bike and me up off the deck. Turn round and one of me work mates is in the traffic laughing like an idiot. All round work the next day :oops:0

gold medal coming for the most embarrasing one.
arriving at the HQ for 20 mile TT. next to the finish line. luckily only the timer saw me and I carried it off well 8) 1st time in Look keo as opposed to spd (that's the excuse by the way)http://twitter.com/mgalex

Im afraid I have to join the club after my commute home. Coming to a T junction wanting to turn left and join the main (usually quiet) road and a white van came round the corner at speed and cut me up!! I remember a moment of realisation before I crashed into a heap on the floor through a temporary road sign!!
Ive been using my spd's for about 6 months with no problems, so to do it so far down the line is just a pisser!!!!0
