C+ was good but this ain't the same :(

I went out walking
Through streets paved with gold
Lifted some stones
Saw the skin and bones
Of a city without a soul
I went out walking
Under an atomic sky
Where the ground won't turn
And the rain it burns
Like the tears when I said goodbye

Yeah I went with nothing
Nothing but the thought of you
I went wandering

I went drifting
Through the capitals of tin
Where men can't walk
Or freely talk
And sons turn their fathers in
I stopped outside a church house
Where the citizens like to sit
They say they want the kingdom
But they don't want God in it

I went out riding
Down that old eight lane
I passed by a thousand signs
Looking for my own name

I went with nothing
But the thought you'd be there too
Looking for you

I went out there
In search of experience
To taste and to touch
And to feel as much
As a man can
Before he repents

I went out searching
Looking for one good man
A spirit who would not bend or break
Who would sit at his father's right hand
I went out walking
With a bible and a gun
The word of God lay heavy on my heart
I was sure I was the one
Now Jesus, don't you wait up
Jesus, I'll be home soon
Yeah I went out for the papers
Told her I'd be back by noon

Yeah I left with nothing
But the thought you'd be there too
Looking for you

Yeah I left with nothing
Nothing but the thought of you
I went wandering..

The old forum had lots of people chatting but this site is run by a corporate business. It wants a targetted audience and age group for the advertizing on the pages, not some people who just bring traffic to the site with no click-thrus. Half the people on the soapbox, campaign and cakestop would never talk about cycling, it was politics or irrelevant chat, all available on other forums. This place is more about cycling.
  • Agreed.
If I wasn't out on my bike I was on C+
I very rarely visit the forum now, C+ had a really good 'feel' about it. It always felt sort of friendly.. too hell with it, I'm going for a ride!!

Why don't you lot come on over to acf? It's like C+ in the old days, only better...no trolls, no nastiness. Very wide ranging discussions, mostly not about bikes.

Maybe I'm odd, but I like talking about bikes. ACF is OK, but I get bored by all the non-cycle stuff and in-jokes.

If everyone stuck with it while this forum was developed rather than flouncing off in a huff this would be just as good as the old C+. I think the developers have done a pretty good job of fixing the major issues and the mods have killed off the trolling problems which were pretty bad on the old forum. FWIW I think this forum will be just fine given a bit of time.

  Thanks Eurostar! Sorry I'm a bit thick since an 81 year old hit me on a rouncabout at 30mph.
He lent over me and said, "Are you OK?"
To which I replied, "You've just hit me with a ton of metal at 30mph, of course I'm f***ing OK, never been better."

My brain hasn't been the same since I fell off in San Francisco and fractured my skull. Don't remember it and have no idea what happened!

There's advertising on the site?

Thank the computing gods for Firefox and Adblock Plus - I tend to forget there are adverts on the internet!

  • Haven't been in here since the outflux of folks when C+ converted to BR. Lot's of the old C+ folks went over to Cycle Chat. Feels very much like the old C+. See you there. :D

Interesting that the problems first mooted with BR are still about. Had hoped things would have improved..............

Who said that then? Things have improved to be fair. Maybe theres a couple of niggles but apart from it being a bit quiet sometimes (and thats changing too) its a good forum. The irreverance is returning now people are beginning to understand what gets posted where. And all the talk about it being run by a corporate business is rubbish. Theres no unruly mods going to chuck you off for not clicking on the ads

Anyone else now have a mental image of mid-60s Bank Holiday mass brawls in south coast resorts invoving lots of blokes on Lambrettas? Or is it just me? :)

I migrated to Cycle Chat when the old C+ forum disappeared, but I have started sneaking back again because the technical side of this is so much better, faster moving and informative. CC is turning into another ACF, where cycling makes up only a minor part of the forum.

My 2500 post count has not carried across though, I am back to virgin status.

Don't get hung up on post counts, a quick glance at our leading poster on this forum reveals a high level of "cheating". I have to say that I like the technical side of things on this forum, the cake stop is fun, met some new people.

I can't be arsed signing up to another cycling forum or cycle chat - no-one from there bothered to stay in touch, so I can't be arsed with them either

What do I ride? Now that's an Enigma!
  • I always love the posts where people announce they are leaving

Do they expect us to give a f*ck?

Maybe a bit harsh, but a sign people are taking themselves and internet fora a tad too seriuosly

:D so whats the point of it? Might as well be face book or any anonymous chatroom/board. Personally the whole point of a site like this is that everyone is into cycling in some way, and wants to talk about it.After all, if you want to have a general conversation with someone then isnt it better with "real life" people? IMO these forums exist (certainly for me) because none of my close friends are into cycling and it bores them sh*tless!

Just a thought, I wonder if there any forums for people who are interested in fridges or washing machines... (meant as a light hearted mickey take :) )

My kind works firewall means I can't access Cycle Chat - but the occassional glimpse shows a relatively slow post-count and many people asking the same questions as on here. I accept that the quality of banter has probably reduced on here. not helped by the complexities of navigation and knowing what goes where. I also find that the sheer volume of threads also means that the same questions get repeated, which gets a bit tiresome.

Resentment runs deep for some people. I had a nose around CC a couple of times just after the exodus and a few posters appeared to want to ruin or close down BR. To be fair, they were roundly stomped all over and told to grow up (and, as far as I can tell, the posts were deleted) There were also gripes about the self-mod'ing. Perhaps it's not the cyber nirvana that they'd expected.

It's a pity that inter-fora rivalry tends to manifest itself with negative posts like the OP's. An inter-fora cyclosportive, or something (commuter racing (veggie eco-warrior v beardy, sandle wearing tourers??), speed fettling??), would be a more positive use of rivalry.

To the returnees: Welcome back! You've - probably - been missed. :D
