Im 35 years old with a resting pulse of around 56-58 so pretty average I guess .... bombing up a hill near the cafe stop on this morning's club run my HRM was flashing beeping and reading 202bpm - the max it has ever previous read is 182 although it was the hardest ride i have done since i bought it...

Do you think this is abnormally high for my age? If so should I be worried? Or do you think my HRM was misreading?

its a cateye double wireless jobbie if that's relevant...

I'm sure you are fine. I'm 45 and my max is near 200 and my resting is about the same as yours. Just becasue your resting pulse is 56-58 it doesn't mean you are not in good condition. If you were untrained it would be a lot higher.

If you were able to follow it  did it suddenly jump up there or climb up over a short period of time?: if it was the former it was most likely a blip, if the latter then you need to reevaluate your HR zones :) . the actual value need not be wrong or a matter of concern tho'

I didnt follow it up, but i did follow it down so i think it was accurate in hindsight....

Oh well doesnt sound like anything to be worried about - it also makes sense in the lightof how easy sticking below my previously calculated (based on 220 - age rule) 160 bpm feels....

    cheers guys

    You're welcome but I'm not a 'guy' - a gal rather!

160 if your max is about 200 would be a cushy 80% so yes i guess your max is about 200! Recalculate and be prepared to SUFFER
