How essential is a winter training bike?

  • I think the term 'winter bke' is actually inaacurate. It sounds like 'wet weather' bike is more the correct term.

The majority on this topic so far seem to think it's far from essential, just put a bit more effort into cleaning your bike and above all just love riding your bike :D

I try to refer to my bike with 'guards as a trainer or commuter (though in the summer I do ride to work on my race bike an awful lot, especially if I'm TTing straight after work). My absolute "best" bike is a 'cross bike, which probably makes it more of a "winter bike" [1] than its inferior stablemates :)

[1] I did take it out for a spin the other weekend. Not as much fun when it's bone-dry and the bridle paths are mostly rock hard.
