Hi
Someone recommended a pilates DVD ages ago (can't find it on the search). And can't afford my own instructor just yet!
Was it Pilates for Men with Lindsey Jackson?
Cheers

Unless there's something wrong with you (that Pilates can help with) absolutely nothing.

Hi
It's partly for cycling, mostly for general core strength issues anyway.
People here have recommended pilates in the past, such that some even had personal trainers.

I've been doing a pilates class for several months, and I mainly do it for increased flexabilty, and to relax and stretch out. My cycling has got better, as well as my swimming and running, so it does seem to have some benefits, for me at least. Some of the pro-cyclists also do pilates or yoga, so they must know something as well.
Worth a try anyway, what have you got to loose, except the price of a DVD, Book or a few classes. Even if it doesn't help with your cycling, it will help with everyday posture (DVD - LindseyJackson's - Pilates for men) is OK, and as the title says, aimed at men, as we have different needs.0 -
I've got some Lynn Robinson and some Lindsey Jackson pilates DVDs and I prefer Lindsey Jackson - she does a bit more stretching in hers and they happen to be some of the stretches I do for cycling so I feel it has an extra benefit. I haven't seen the DVD aimed at men (I'm a girl) but i have two others which are good. I do pilates to protect against back problems.0

I have two by Lynn Robinson as well, they are OK, but aimed more toward the female viewer , or at least as the above poster said, Lin Jacksons' DVD has more stretching in. My pilates class does, the instructor asked what we wanted out of the class, and the majority said flexability more than strength.0

I go to a Pilates class once a week due to a lower back problem, but it does help with cycling and most sports as it strengthens the back and your core strength, increases flexability and helps with balance.0

According to the feature in the comic - Levi Leipheimer is a huge Pilates fan.
If you haven't got a strong core you will be wasting energy as you pedal. Its not my cup of tea, but if you have a weakness there or want to make sure you are doing all you can then its a good thing to do.
DVDs aren't the way forward tho - a lot of it is quite technical and relies upon the instructor correcting your movements. No DVD can check you out and put you right.
Most church halls/ leisure centres have classes each week for a fiver or so for an hour.0
