Where do you stop? Is there an official line of demarcation?
Is there a rule of thumb or navel on this...

Just above the boxer line is good, that way you don't have furry stocking-tops in changing rooms :D

Until you wear pants syle swimming cossie on hols, looks really daft with matching thigh length tan lines. Find yourself greeting "Er I'm a cyclist" in response to slightly raised eyebrows that greet you around the pool...

I'd be horrified if my guy shaved his, and he has pretty furry legs.
So from my point of view - don't do it. Just one step from lacy pants imo.

Exactly! If you're not a girl and you're not a pro then why bother? This thread has come up time and time again and it's always the same answers. 'Cos it's to show you take cycling more seriously' or something similar.

Pleeeeeeaaaaaaasssssssseeeeee!!! Give us a break. Tsk! 8)

    Serious question time

Which is best, ie gives a better finish, shaving with a razor or Veet etc?
Flying Scot? You must be joking!

I'll come clean on this OK.

It's a bit embarrasing, but I only cycle as a cover for my leg-shaving activities. Belonging to a cycling club allows me to indulge in leg shaving AND lycra...and cycling clubs are much cheaper then belonging to the Masons...

The pessimists of this world are rarely disappointed....

  • Started shaving me legs after one hellish afternoon in the countryside, the hairs and sweat combined to make a perfect fly trap. Not only flies but bitey- stingie things as well lower legs covered in bites and stings!!. Shaved the legs end of problem, don't nock it 'till you've tried it, more hygenic and easier to massage tae
  • It's about style, giant man. You're not likely a candidate as you ride a Giant and are so insecure about your gender that you put "man" in your username. ;) Best keep those hairy legs!

Coming from France you qulify in at least one of the above then :D

There are many reasons given for leg shaving:
Stops hairs ripping skin when crashing, keeps cut clean, easier to remove plaster, easy to massage etc.

I shave mine all year round and in winter I use olive oil mixed with deep heat for massagin into legs before ride, this keeps legs warm and also helps repel rain.
If I did not shave legs I would end up using a whole tube of deep heat every ride !!! Smooth legs means easier to lube legs and requires a lot less of it !!
It alao makes all my tattoos look better :D

Hmmmm, you are invited to our Sunday morning Club thrash. Most understand English and would be happy to hear you  You won't see any shaved legs but reading your post I am sure you would enjoy checking...

Perhaps you should get some stabilisers? The tw@ factor is about the same as shaved legs

 "Seek and ye shall find". Maybe it was too much eau de cologne on your legs...

Dunno if its been mentioned but I'm pretty sure its easier to rub suncream into shaved legs. I've been tempted to shave them before cycling holidays to avoid spending ages rubbing it in. I haven't bothered yet but I can imagine that for people racing or cycling daily its probably a good idea.

Lucky you...with all this rain we've been having recently I keep filling up. After an hour in the rain it gets to the top and starts trickling out of my ears

There's something just plain wrong lookin' with blokes who only shave their calves though, and so you have wookie thighs and then chicken-leg calves - too weird if you ask me.

If I ever shaved my legs I'd go right up to my shoulders!

What do I ride? Now that's an Enigma!

In the rest of society, doing something to your appearance which is the same as what other people do is called . . . fashion.

Nothing wrong with that. I would shave my legs if my wife would let me. I want to look like a real cyclist - nothing wrong with that.

People shave their heads because they think it looks cool. Girls shave their armpits and legs purely for appearance. No other reason why they should.

Most men shave their faces nowadays. 19th century, most men didnt. Just fashion.

Only we male cyclists have to come up with all sorts of ridiculous self justifications because it's something only girls do otherwise.

Lots of professional sportsmen have leg massages with leg hair.

If road rash is worse with leg hair, why don't we shave our arms as well? I have just as many elbow/forearm scrapes as leg scrapes from bike spills.

So what if it takes a bit longer - uses up more of the tub - to apply cream to your legs? Is that really a reason to shave things? Same thing applies to putting sun block on arms.

BE PROUD - we do it because we want to look like cyclists and because it looks good on a bike - that's all.

Shaved my Bol---ks once, didn't like that either,
Although the wife did !!!!! As for the legs, not likely it's bad enough wearing licra at my age without getting rid of even more masculinity

Shaved all over for the last 5 years or so. Done it as a dare once from the wife, and stuck with it. She likes it, I am used to it, physiotherapist thinks it is cool as well (good looking as well she is!! ;) ) and others in our 'alternative' lifestyle prefer it as well.

The only hair left on my body is a thin line goatee & my forearms (due to having too sensitive skin for either shaving or waxing there from being severely burned 15 years ago on them).
