    This was in Gazetta

Following revelations by the French newspaper La Provence of a third positive result among riders tested after the 14th stage of the Tour de France, the DS of Barloworld, Alberto Volpi, denied that the athlete in question was Colombian Juan Mauricio Soler, as had been reported by several news agencies. "First of all, Soler was never picked for testing on any day since his victory in Briancon, and further, we have not received any notification. It is absolutely evident, therefore, that the case in question cannot be Soler, " Volpi said to AGR. "We are absolutely easy about this. It's just someone trying to take advantage. "

He would've been tested since Ras was booted though?

No, they only test the stage winner + yellow jersey wearer + several randoms each day.

I'd guess so, but it appears that the test was specific to a day when Solar was not the classification leader and only wore the jersey as Ras was in yellow. I don't know the protocol for testing those second in a classification that wear the jersey

So if it wasn't Soler (or was it?) was it someone else, or is the whole story a massive rumour?

Haven't seen it posted in this thread, but I've read the riders tested after Stage 14 were:

Valverde, Schleck, Verdugo, Valjavec, Le Mevel, Scheirlinckx, Rasmussen and Contador

The best climber and sprinter are not being tested as a matter of course???

Must admit that in my naivity, I thought that they would be. That is ridiculous, these are important goals in themselves and I am sure there are people who would take drugs just to achieve such a goal.

    Frustrating.

Well not according to the list I've read. Perhaps the theory goes that whoever is wearing the jersey is likely to have won a stage at some point along the route - not fool proof is it.

Personally I'd like to see the top 3 on GC tested each day, because coming in the Top 10 is as good as winning the Overall for some riders.

There are allegedly documents from Fuentes clinic which make reference to Contador, claims Le Monde, citing the Spanish Guardia Civil.

    see them at

    http://www.cycling4all.com/operacionpuerto06-2.pdf

The first reference to Contador is mentioned on a list of then-Liberty Seguros teammates (spelling mistakes remain as is) that appear on a document later to identified as a list of training schedules for members of the team:

En el documento 3 se observan marcados de distinta forma los nombres de los corredores: Dariuz BARANOWSKY; Josefa BELOKI; Ginpaolo CARUSO; Alberto CONTADOR; Allan DAVIS; David ETXEBARRÍA; Igor GONZÁLEZ DE GALDEANO; Roberto HERAS; Jorg JAKSCHE; Isidro NOZAL; Sergio PAULINHO; Nuno RIBEIRO; Luis León SÁNCHEZ; Michele SCARPONI; Marcos SERRANO y Ángel VICIOSO.

The second reference includes initials of riders' name that appeared on another training document:

En el reverso del documento 31 se localizan unas anotaciones manuscritas con el título "INDIVIDUALIZACIÓN" en el que se identifican a distintos corredores del equipo LIBERTY-SEGUROS WÜRTH por sus iniciales: R. H. (Roberto HERAS), M. S. (Marcos SERRANO), J. B. (Joseba BELOKI), I. G. (Igor GONZÁLEZ), A. V. (Ángel VICIOSO), J. J. (Jorg JAKSCHE), A. D. (Alan DAVIS), L. (sin identificar), A. C. (Alberto CONTADOR) .

Contador will certainly have some interviews to do later today...

Le Monde has published an article today linking him to Fuentes and the "work" conducted by the Spanish doctor in "preparing" the Liberty Seguros squad for the 2005 season. There are allegedly documents from Fuentes clinic which make reference to Contador, claims Le Monde, citing the Spanish Guardia Civil. In December 2006, Contador was interviewed by the investigating judge Antonio Serrano, and declared that he did not know Fuentes.

Who knows what to make of this. More allegations but if true, Contador should not have started the race as the named riders from Puerto are blacklisted by ASO. If you understand French, read the article for yourself here.[/quote

Velonews investigated this two days ago and concluded there was nothing against Contador. His name comes up, but only as being listed in race results, not in conection to any doping offense.
