Everyone- look at it this way;
Imagine there are two bikes. Both are "average" good bikes, like a Hardrock. Bike 1 is locked with a cable lock bought from Argos or recommended by Halfords and cost £4.99. Bike 2 has a sold secure beefy looking chain or a couple of D-locks attached.
What bike will bike thief bob go for?
Bike 1 me thinks with his trusty pair of small bolt croppers or sharp wire cutters.
Bike 2 will be left for angle grinder arthur who will create loads of noise.Too enthusiastic about biking for my friends...want to ride somewhere in the SE? TELL ME!!! hamsterscanswim@hotmail.com - and yes they can!0 -
The worrying thing that I saw from the programme is that you could almost drive a JCB up to a bike and use that to get the lock off and no one would bat an eye lid!
Regardless of what lock is used, bolt croppers outside Scotland Yard, Hacksaw somewhere else, or a 14V angle grinder outside the Barbican, no one cares (except the owner)
So even if you had a super-duper Thatcham/sold secure/almax or what the hell all three on your bike, someone could (in theory) walk along and use whatever they needed to to get the locks off.
btw I don't know of any cases where this has actually happened....yet
If it's worth steeling it's worth the effort....My mate had his brand spanking new Kona Lava dome stolen from his shed the day after it arrived! Now that really sucks0
