On my ride at hamsterly today i found i was bottoming out my shock on my regin too easily. But when i pump it up the sag is no longer correct. Is this right or os something wrong? And what should it do?

Is the shock leaking air then? I forgot what shock you have now! Inflate until you have the correct sag, or a little more if you are bottoming. Do you have any compression damping adjustment?0
-
Sounds like its not tuned correctly for your riding style and needs more bottom out damping. Unless as sonic says its leaking air.0
-
Its an fox rp23 anything interesting about that?

Another possibility is (usually seen with forks though) is stiction, that props the shock up slightly. So as i tbeds in you get the impression its sagging a little more.0

:? ? the o ring dowsn't go off teh bottom of teh schock it just makes a horrid cluck when you do. I hppe its not leaking

This shock has no highspeed damping adjustment, though it can be tuned at Mojo. Simple fix = more air.0

Yeh i have put more air into it for the moment. But it feels solid . i knew something would go wrong

You know how to use the adjusters? Is the pro pedal turned on? This will give a different sensation when pedalling of course. Just inflate to your normal sag, and note the pressure. Do this when stood on the bike in attack mode.0
-
Yeh i flick pro pedal on for teh up hills I don't understand measure pressure stood on and off the bike? :?

Only pump up when off the bike, but measure the sag when stood on it! Then get off, adjust repeat until you have what you want. With a 51mm stroke, looking at 14-17mm of movement for sag,.0

make sure you dont have too much rebound as you could pack it down."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

I had it set at 12mm sag and it still bottomed out The rebough it slow maybe 4 or 5 clicks off teh slowest. Any other ideas?

As nick says, pcaking down could be a problem. What terrain are you riding?0
-
If i put it any faster it starts to kick me over teh bars as i am light Terain anything from jumps to 3-4 foot drops ot XC/AM rides. Why?

I would ring mojo and tell them your dilemna. They maybe able to valve the shock to tune it to your needs. 4ft drops bottoms my shock as well!0
-
Yeh but how much travel do you have? The reign has 6" one more problem even if mojo ot tft could do soemthing it would be at a cost. That one thing i don't have

5.5 inches of travel on the Saracen, set up for AM riding with 30% sag. Hit a big drop, land on the back and CRUNCH! All you can do really is run less sag or pay for the shock to have the bottom out tuned.0
-
Poo i new i needed more travel or a coil shock I should have got a bigger fork I am cr*p at this bike choosing lark
DunkSoon to be updated!!!0 -
How about sell the shock and get a new one? You don't necessarily need a coil shock.0
-
Well it is possible but what other shock can you put in it? As a coil don't fit

FOX DHX air 5?0
-
i dought that would fit the whole in the fame is tiny It has the bit that pokes out which i don't think would fit. Does that have compression damping?

It is a multi adjustable shock, with adjustable damping, bottom out and more: have a look at the Fox site.
When you are going on rides that have jumps and drops, just run less sag with your current bike/shock.0 -
Dunk dont look at spending any more money. just get out on the trails with a shock pump and play with the settings. a bit of this and that and you will have it sorted."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

if there are lots of bumps or jumps in quick succession adn the rebound isnt fast enough, the shock will pack down and may feel as though its bottoming out. try having less rebound adjustment and see whta happens then.I said hit the brakes not the tree!!

Why does having a faster rebound affect the way it bottoms out?
DunkSoon to be updated!!!0 -
If the shock has slow rebound, and you hit many successive bumps quickly, it doesn't have time to extend fully. So this means is progressively 'packs down', not leaving enough travel to deal with a big hit.0

Okies but i clucked off drops with flat bits before them I guess i just made the wrong desision and should have got the s-works enduro
