Pain in leg

For a few years now I have been suffering from a pain in the back of my leg when I cycle. It takes a few miles to develop, quicker if I pedal hard or climb too early. It then gets slowly worse for the remainder of a ride. It then takes a couple of days off the bike to more or less disappear. If you locate the bone protrusion at the top of the lower leg, it is in the soft area just inside this. I have had mixed success with differing seat heights, higher seeming to be better. Can anyone shed any light on what this is and whether it is a position issue? It is only my right leg and only when cycling. Thanks.
