No, that works too. "I'm not a big fraidy-cat who wants five inches of shop-bought skill between me and the rocks on descents; my DH riding etc etc..."

Oh dear. I'm taking the mick out of myself here, not you.
And the slightly more serious point, in answer to Steve's allegations about suspension bikes and their riders, is that we ride the bikes we ride for a vast range of reasons.
You use a full suspension bike because it allows you to push the limits of your skill - and have fun.
I use a full suspension bike because I'm a knackered old shit who likes the way modern equipment compensates for my lack of skill - and so helps me have fun.
Ultimately, we're grown-ups riding over-sized BMX bikes in the mud. We can make ourselves look like right twonks if we take that too seriously.John Stevenson0 -

Re-reading that today I can see that now, I was getting very wound up on here yesterday due to some very rude posters and a ridiculous spreadsheet I was working on.
It would seem our opinions are actually the same and apologise for jumping to conclusions. :oops:a dirtbag of the most delightful variety0 -

I thought Squaggles might be happy that some folk hadn't deserted the forum

I found that road riding made me a very good XC MTB racer very quickly after buying an MTB. The technical skills of MTB riding were quite easy to pick up. Any competent road rider who chooses to do MTB can do well. Many MTBers concentrate on technical skills, which though important are not as crucial as the fitness and sheer power. Pottering about on the difficult bits at Peebles or Coed-y-Brenin is no substitute for putting in the miles if you want to do well at XC.0

You mean the technical skills of XC riding were easy to pick up. There's more to MTBs than XC, and they don't all use the same skill sets. It's not like road riding, which from looking around this half of the forum seems to come in two main flavours: with or without drugs.0
