I get the feeling all the old Cycling+ forum folk have gone elsewhere :cry:

Who's left?? :?: :?:

Or maybe people (have been forced) to chage their on-line name,s so I don't recognise anyone.

Me too. I also go to anothercyclingforum.com. It's good there, especially the know-how stuff. And the humour. But I shall probably keep coming here for Race, at least while the Tour's on.

yea im here .... infrequent poster on C+ , but planning to make more of a splash on here ...coincidence by the way ..i loved the C+ site.

if we keep going maybe we can get this the way we want it !

oh and by the way ..... not sure if the " elephant " signatures were only allowed to be specific to certain posters ...but im going to have one ...just ...because ..i found them funny and they will confuse the hell out on non C+ users !!

Yes just. But am also dipping my toe into www.cyclechat.co.uk where a lot of the old C+ members have gone.

Would like to see this BikeRadar work as it is bound to attract a bigger audience.

But the launch has been abysmally handled, which doesn't give me much confidence for the future.

As always I straddle both and gentlemencyclists.org as well (more smut, no censorship). The problem I have with this place is that it's soooooo huge that "active topics" is unmanageably vast.

I decided to stick with it, but despite assurances, I really can see no improvements since Day 1, apart from removal of these annoying pics some people had in every post. We still have no explanation of the modding system, how they were appointed etc. rules of posting. John Stevenson seems a genuine guy, trying hard to improve things but getting no support, but I have to consider if I want to be a part of an organisation that has seen fit to give a degree of authority to the obnoxious nicklouse. There are so many sections, I almost have to keep a note of thread titles in order to get back to follow topics in threads. Not that there have been any threads worth following in the past week.
There have been vague promises, and I think there is potential for new developments, but they could be a long time coming :(

I'm still around, but have am now also on Cycle-chat (and have been on ACF for a while).

I'm gonna wait and see how it develops (if it develops), but right now its a big white mess.
Cycle-chat seems to have the vibe of the old forum going-on. I'm hedging my bets and am now Tr-forumnal!

    I'm here too!

However, not really either here or there as much as I used to be over there.

I'm happy to give this place a while to settle.

We clearly need to get to know each other better - Yorkshireman you're doing such a sterling effort I rarely feel the urge to post a less eloquent reply!!!

CycleChat is no longer quiet - it's got over 500 active members, including the vast majority of the old core of C+ (sans racing boys who seem to be happy here...). CC is lightly modded by volunteers, non-commercial, looks easier on the eye, and runs by the Bill and Ted philosophy of life - 'Be Excellent to Each Other!"

So, there's now almost 600 ex-C+ Forummers over at CycleChat, lots of ex-WMBers at their own new place, etc. etc.. Sure you've theoretically got thousands here, but that's simply because Future have just transfered the membership lists wholesale, including dupicates, lurkers, one-time registrants etc.

This is the point after all - for Future, this whole exercise is is about combining databases, to create a more effective marketing device.

So this place is rapidly becoming just MBUK with extras... which is what we didn't want. I'm not sure even MBUK people wanted it. Well, apart from the fact that some of the more juvenile think it gives them license to go around being rude to everyone who doesn't like it.

Why did Future not just stick with what was apparently the original idea of having a site which acted as a portal to the existing forums?

What's more 'BikeRadar' is an extraordinarily stupid and meaningless name that conveys absolutely nothing useful - the kind of thing that sounds like it was dreamt up by a committee of twentysomething 'brand specialists' who all got 2:2s in media studies at some second rate university... I really hope Future didn't pay anyone to come up with it.

Pah! Anyway, I really shouldn't post anything more having already said I'm not going to anymore... see you all at www.cyclechat.co.uk

Now I guess I'll have to tell 'em

I'm still loitering with intent around these parts, find myself visiting Singletrack a bit more than previously, and have registered at CycleChat too. Not sure if I'm supposed to be loyal to one particular forum or another. Anyway, I'll keep a foot in each of the sites and contribute where I can!

Basically I'm enjoying being a bit of a fora-slut at the moment!

Great. May I stop posting "I think the site has potential" all over the bloody place now  (still got all that white to have a go at, I`m sure it will all be `sorted`) If I might just say - I think the site ... Oh! %&*

Flying_Monkey your critique is spot on. While the bugs on this site are an annoyance, the real problem is that the whole concept and structure has been misconceived. As you suggest, why not restructure BikeRadar so that it acts as a portal to the original forums or new specialist areas - this would resolve most of the dissatisfaction with the site.

How is BR like MBUK exactly? If you all stopped crying and attempted to form some sort of community spirit, this place would a very different. Instead you all just moan and say 'this place is no good, I'm leaving'.

This reminds me of a work situation, where over the years we had come together and worked as a team although never used that term. Then management made major changes, all of the old working relationships were split up, no one new quite where they were and management introduced Team working and wondered why we all had a puzzled look.

One of the things we're working on is exactly that - setting up the forums so people only see the specialist areas they want to see.

And you're going to say that it should have been like that in the first place, and I'm not going to argue with you. It wasn't, but it will be.

Yes, yes I have. I used to watch the Smurfs as a child.

If my sig offends people, have them report it to the admin staff. Ask them send me a PM or email and I'll remove it. Simple.

That sounds like real progress. I just hope that it's not too late to keep a nucleus of the old C+ posters on the forum. I intend to stick it out, because it sounds as if you are working hard to deal with people's concerns. I think a lot of C+ posters must have felt, like I did, that we were being subsumed into a mountain biking forum.

John - glad to see your positive response here and elsewhere.

The point I was trying to make is that, as well as fixing the bugs and annoyances, you need to step back a bit and think about what the whole site is for.

Or alternatively you need to better explain the thinking behind BikeRadar to forum users. What do you see as the benefit of having one bike site like this (other than presumably generating more advertising revenue)? After all Future Publishing doesn't produce one catch all magazine for all kinds of cyclists, so why have one big site?

I am sure there are good reasons - for example if C+ readers can gain access to product reviews from other magazines - but you need to spell them out and bring people with you.

I am still hanging in, good to see that some of the tech issues are being sorted, but these should have sorted before we were all forced to move. There should have been better information about what was going to happen before it happened. Too late for all that so the best that can be done is to start a RLJ thread and hope for the best...
