just wondering whether the forced join is getting any of us to post out of the "comfort zone".

I've been reading the DH and XC parts of the MTB forums, cos I do that kind of riding. If i have a technical question I'll post it there, but might also post it on Singletrack. Not interested in WMB parts because I don't like that mag, I have more time for MBUK mag but not for the kinds of discussion they have.

this is my MBUK login that was transferred anyway. i posted more on C+

I use www.mlehworld.com or singletrack for MTB stuff

MBUKids isn't really about the kind of riding i do.
    been posting over there though

MTBing isn't my thing at all (I swapped my mountain bike for a big bag of skunk and some cash) but I might nip over and have a lurk.

I raised a question in beginners. About having three lots of beginners.

(and you'd be suprised how often I type begineers and have to correct it!)

Other than that - not really. Looked at sandbox once, but was just nosying.... haven't felt the urge to look at jumping yet, although will probably at some point....

It's interesting to see which are the most used areas - like C+ beginners for example (should I be calling that Road Beginners now??), and which have been created out of thin air, and haven't really caught on yet. Like the General section, maybe Doping, etc...

    Is it THE Mike?

Mosschops: I urge you to stay out of jumping. Even within the MBUK forum, that section has been looked down on and despised for as long as anyone can remember.

    There is only ONE Mike.

AR, he's a nice lad really, I remember one time when he hacked into an admin account and deleted our entire forum content.

    Those were the days.

Yes I posted in the Jumping section. Quite amusing really , it was a case of When Cultures Collide.
I got two replies and the thread has now been deleted.
I mentioned the location of a large hole in the ground and an adjacent cleared area with dirt mounds , in a public place near where I live. I will give no further details or this post/thread will be deleted.
The first reply said something along the lines of ,,, if you don't dig there don't ride there ... and told me not to be a 'trail rapist'
The second reply was from somebody who said that if he stll had moderator rights he would delete the thread.
Then I suppose a real moderator came along , saw the thread and exercised his rights.

It's a pity I didn't copy the text before it disappeared

A surprising amount of the MBUK lot do XC. Usually on completely and utterly inappropriate bikes.

For the love of god, stay away from the Jumping forum. Really. Unless you want to see the effect a school holiday has on it...

Jumping has a similar culture to a 14 month old bhuna left in a the sun.
  • I asked a serious Q about trials and got some serious replies. There's enough unwarranted animosity between cyclists and car drivers, let alone cyclists of differing interests!!

I have been to "the dark side" too 8)

asked for a cup of sugar in the Sandbox and helped someone with a computer problem in Off Topic

Strange to say, "they" are all ride bikes.

Just the same as me.

Hang on hang on the dark side is relative! MTBers call roadies the dark side, not the other way round! Geared MTBers also call singlespeed the dark side too. Anyway I can jump, it's fun. Nowt wrong with it. My biggest is the table top on Hamsterley DH course and some of the 4X course also at Hamsterley. Doubles scare me.

    Are you talking to me?
No I wasn't either. Whichever side is 'dark' is relative. That was my point.

There seems to be a lot of confusion over who is who due to the joining of forums. MTBers and roadies who obviously have different ways of thinking are having to come to terms with the differnet aspects of cycling that we take part in. For me, the dark side is the ones who ride those strange things near the ground called recumbents and fixed wheelies, but perhaps I am biased comng from a road background. I am sure after a while this forun will sort itself out and we will all find our slots out .

I use a slicked MTB for ugly weather commuting and big loads, but I'm still a roadie at heart.
Not sure about the integration, it's just trouble.
