Theoretically how legal would it be too...

Mimic the MBUK forums as they were, under a new name?

Would any one actually use them? How much would a years hosting cost? I can't see the Future dudes making these forums any more suited to the needs of the average MBUK user.

Theoretically speaking, of coarse.

  • Theoretically, if the people from here would use it, i would use it as much as i used the original.

They won't have copyrighted the layout, so legally, it's just another mtb forum?

You could just go to www.mbukquotes.co.uk and see what happens...
  • Well, yeah. But, as it is, I'm only allowed in the 'Newbie' bit. Which consists of 1 thread and 2 replies...

I come here for the content though, not the layout, which seems to have received more regailing than any of the other unfortunate things that have happened this year.

You know you've made a shit forum when it's beaten by the standard InvisionFree forums... Not that they're bad, just widely used.

I can post in the other place's Sandbox, does this make me special? Or is there a secret store that is still hidden from me?

Its not really hard to beat this forum though tbh!.

I want to just go back to MBUK forum. I dont feel safe here, with loads of people looking at me.
    And theres no strikethrough!!!
  • The front page of each section of the forum on here is ridiculously long.

There's topics from may at the bottom of the general page and its not needed!!!! :x It needs shortened so that only the recent topics show.

Grrrr I just hate change! :(

The old forum was a standard OS forum called snitz, so if you had hosting you could easily duplicate the old forum. Don't know how many would use it though.

Yer I was looking at that as well, at the bottom of mbuk forum is a link and I would deff use it rather than this place.

Yup, this forum is probably a lot better, MBUK hadn't been funny for ages. I was starting to go off it tbh. Hah, I haven't been let into the 'other place', my mind has been made up.

ok this is actually quite sad. i cant believe there are people considering setting up a new forum identical to the old one. there's obviosly some points being missed here, firstly the only thing that made the old forum good was the fact it was 'our own' and had that sorta group history going on.

and my second point. ITS ONLY THE INTERNET it's not like losing a forum is gonna change your lives, it's not like the death of a loved one or something ffs.

It was the death of a loved one.

I would revive the forum as it was a few years ago. It got sh|t a while back, about the time the forum invasions ended, and now here is as good as the actual forum - It provides a distraction. The old forum, with sams blog, fleapitfan and invasions of ramblers forums actually had me in hysterics quite a few times.

"Mimic the MBUK forums as they were, under a new name?"

Knock yourself out. The slightest mention of MBUK in a way that could be construed as 'passing off' and I doubt the editorial team would be able to stop our legal Nazgul from doing their thing though.

As I understand it, my colleagues have had to fight Legal a few times over the years to keep the forums open. Remarkable as it may sound, we are actually on your side. Hard to believe I know, when you'd rather see us as The Man.

"I can't see the Future dudes making these forums any more suited to the needs of the average MBUK user."

Why not? This particular Future dude goes back right to the beginning with MBUK, before Future even owned it. (Admittedly, I have done a couple of other things in the meantime.) Why wouldn't we care?

We know there's problems with these forums, and we'll be working to fix them over the coming weeks. Please bear with us.

You could even give us some feedback about what you'd like us to improve. Not just 'make it the way it was', but since we have developers working on this site and these forums for the first time in years - what would you like to see here?

Have you not seen all the constructive criticism? its all over the forums, people have told you what they want from the forum and what is wrong with it at the moment. You cant blame the users for getting pissed off when this place is in Beta and doesnt work, why couldnt you keep the old forums open while bikeradar is in Beta?
