Different style of bike, so pointless topic and vote

Huh??? I thought they were both entry level hardtails with the same style of riding in mind; ideal for beginners. Is that not the point of the poll?

Hardrock is an offensive weapon it's that heavy!

The GT avalanche range is out and out XC, the Hardrock range includes bike that are aimed at agressive XC, therefore pointless. Compare to an out and out XC bike and you have a fair test

    Haha, that made me laugh!

Andy, I'm not sure if what you're saying is right or not but I thought the point of this poll is that both of these bikes are aimed at the same "crowd". I may be wrong but it would be interesting to see if people who own these bikes chose them on the merits you have just given.I was unaware of this and I looked at both of these bikes (chose the Avalanche).

Ive ridden both (ownded a Hardrock), and while the Gt is light/better specced, its ugly as... so Id take the Spesh :)

Sonic knows what the answer will be, so whats the point of the post, people who choose the HR do so because its right for them and the same with the GT, if its right for the rider then thats all that matters

I've also had experience of both, my brothers last bike was a GT. Even with that in mind I chose the Spesh, i feel it just offers more

Its not a very serious poll lol, given as it is in this section, I thought there were more Hardrock riders and honestly expected it to top the poll. But the GT is actually marketed as 'All mountain, rather than 'XC', as on the website.

Im guessing only becuase they want the Zaskar (yuck! ) to be thier pure XC bike?

Zaskar is totally different geometry too. But we all have our definitions of XC and AM. I would call both the Hardrock and Avalanche trail bikes, but the hardrock geared to the slightly heavier riding with its frame and wheels.

Hardrock (because I just got one ;) )

The avalanche is lighter and better spec'd, but I preferred the feel of the spesh. I also have 100% confidence in the strength of the bike! (which yes I guess comes at the expense of weight...)

In the end, thats what it comes down to, the fact that you have tested and are happy. I am hoping they put a better fork on next year though to bring it inline with rivals.

When the end of the world is nigh, and all the aluminium has run out.
Us Hardrock owners will be sought after and rich when we sell our frames on.

TBH, I recently tried an Avalanche. Maybe I've just gotten used to what I have, but I preferred my Hardrock.

Its strange how the Hardrock (and Specialized generally) attract so much venom at times. I`ve got the Hardrock and love it. Hired an Avalanche last year in Scotland and hated it. Does that mean `GT are crap...blah, blah` - NO it means I just didnt like the bike !

My Hardrock now weighs about 28 1/2 pounds and is still rock `ard !

It does get a lot of stick the Hardrock for not being the lightest, but its never been an issue for me

I own a Hardrock, but am in the process of building a new bike for all day rides as I find the Hardrock too harsh for rides of anything more than a couple of hours.

The weight has never been a problem to me, I will keep the Hardrock for playing about in the bomb holes and on the jumps, as I know the frame can take it.
