A good review indeed. And yes, more than a little scary - the healthy fear of being eliminated has been one of my training motivators...
This is also a good analysis of the route:

Talking of the broom wagon, a tale from 2006:
Last year one rider had arguably the worst day that didn't involve injury. He started right at the back of the field and with the large crowd got a slow start, so slow, that he was swept up by the Broom Wagon after just 7km and spent 11 hours in the bus following the race !!!

I'm number 7115 so i think its gonna be a case of a fastish start - for at least 30 minutes or so - just to get away from the masses. You seem to be going very well judging by your blog and Box Hill challenge time

it is equipment malfunction in the first 20k that worries me significantly.0
-
I'm scared and I'm not even doing it!!!!0
-
I fear the nutters flying down the first two descents more than any of the climbs.0

Toks, that looks like excellent fun - use the first foothills to escape the crowds.
Enjoy the pain, and Good Luck!
BTW, who's looking for what kind of medal?

Gold obviously. Seriously, finishing comfortably ahead of the sag wagons will be gold for me.

Scared Toks? I laugh in the face of fear... and the run away and cry in the corner. My training has gone to pieces thanks to stupid bloody work. Oh well, UK Etape is my last big distance test next week and I'll try to fit in a Surrey Hills or some threshold sessions (about all I'll be able to get in with work) over the next couple of weeks. Worryingly I totally blew last week at Hillingdon and had to stop because I was feeling dizzy and nauseous. Oh well, I've trained as hard as I could up until mid-June so I should be alright. OK I'm scared.
And horror stories, the chap I'm getting a lift down with had someone ride into his rear mech and trash the back end of his bike in the first 10km or so last year. Gutted.

Toks,
Last years timings are here:
http://www.letapedutour.com/2006/us/infos_course.html
Although I expect this year's to be a little slower.
So, for me (M30-39) that would be approx 23kph or approx 8.5 hrs. Erm. No chance.
