Advise on all-round training?

Hi,
I've been cylcing on a regular basis now for just over a year, and I love the sport, can't get enought of it.

But I can't help feel that my upper-body, especially my stomach, doesn't get a real work out when I'm out on a ride. I know that I could resort to doing sit-ups but the thought of doing sit-ups is just so mind-nummingly dull.

I'd love to hear what other cyclists do to give their upper-body a bit of a more strenous work out too. Please could you advise?

Thanks [:)]

    Hi Little Luce,

Just supplement your cycling with some cross training, namely running and swimming. A lot of people do some circuit training or weight training as well during the winter, off-season months too to build up muscle strength. Finally try to bring in your core muscles in order to drive the pedals when on the bike as much as possible, sounds weird but it is possible.

    Lucy,

Take a look at Core work, very interesting exercises as well as being quite difficult.

A certain young lady under my wing has improved dramatically with this in her training program. [:)]

Hmmm, not quite sure what you are doing to this young lady, but I suppose if she is of legal age and getting good exercise then it can't be all that bad.

Well to see her finish 16th in the National '10' in her first competitive season is something I'm proud of. [:I]

Moreso when you realise this is not her distance, a 12hr being more like it!

why not see if there is a pilates class you could try. It does work, and can be very hard if done properly, but you do need to go for 6 weeks (once a week) before you really notice anything. I've found my swimming and running are different, but hard to say on the bike, apart from climbing seems easier, even with a twisted knee.
