I too thought it was a great day - having the freedom of the road (both sides!!) was amazing. I've been cycling for about 4 months now so thought I'd better start off with the intermediate route but hope to complete the challenge next year. My name on the results is showing as Steve Gaunt and my husband is now called Patrick, but apart from that, I thought it was just a superb event and well worth the money.
  • I think i'll be getting a print of this photo of me :

That's about the best one I've seen Fisha.

I kind of wish I'd bothered to tuck my jacket in properly before hammering it from Logierait now! And my sarcastic smile didn't come out as expected either.

  • There are some photos of me which i know were taken at the 20mile stage, but are not up on the site.

It was the camera on the right hand corner not long after leaving the 1st feeding station. I saw and heard him rattle off a few pics at me as i was the only guy in shot at the time. But they aren't up there, which is wierd.

  • i'll just back up all the positive comments on the event - excellent way to spend a sunday - and funnier still seeing Tete suffer from one last Whisky the night before. Also hope the folk who got a free draft from me and Tete heading into the wind back along Loch tay got a decent time - a wee "cheers" might have been nice on the way past as there was only the 2 of us! ;o)

If you go back to the Etape Caledonia website there is a link to fill in a survey. This tries to address the debated issues of local tourism spend, visiting the area, and suggestions to improve the event, etc. Fill it in - it's our chance to get the event riders' invaluable views across to the organisers and local tourism/business agencies.

I've just filled it in. Good idea to ask how much money I spent locally (some of it went into the till of the local bike shop "Escape Route" - very friendly, very helpful - and some went across the bar of my hotel!), and willingness to return - my clubmate and I are planning a return trip if the event is run next year, and talked about a Scottish "training camp" even if it isn't!
