Pete - glad I got a snap of someone who could appreciate it. Shame I only got your rear view [:D]
Funniest part of the day for me was the look on the faces of folk as I got to the top of Langbar, turned around a rode back down. Some of them thought I was going to do the whole thing again!0 -

well signed (obviously the locals in the Dales don't get their amusement by removing signs/turning them round etc

I was talking to Matt, one of the organisers, after the event about this. Apparently the local lags (can you have chavs in the countryside?), had removed a lot of the signs. The organisation had someone go out in a car at 6:30 on the morning of the ride to check all the signs, and replace those that had been removed!
All credit to the organisation.

I agree. Way beyond the call of duty. Chapeau Booboo and team0 -
Does anybody know when the results are going to be up online?0
-
I've been sent the results, but this time without the splits. I've asked for an updated list including splits - if it has not arrived tomorrow I'll put up the original.

Agreed, great event, I finished in 7:01, shame I couldn't get below 7 hours but hey ho, an enjoyable day. Fantastic lanes and scenery. Excellent organisation, well marked route, plenty of food to grab at the controls, friendly helpers, no waiting anywhere.
I couldn't believe the last climb, Langbar? Just at the point of mental and physical exhaustion, the sight of it made me shudder, and I like hills!
Still tired today, just ridden for an hour this evening, made my way towards the start of the clubs training bash but turned away for an easier ride when I realised I still hurt!
This has to be one of the hardest rides I have ever done (I said this about the 2005 Dragon Ride but I am in much better shape now and had a good idea what was coming...)0 -
I'd like to echo all the praise given to the organisers. It was the best sportive I've done to date. Nice quiet roads, excellent feeds, and good company on the way round. Well done an excellent ride.
I only did the 133. Well I say ONLY I was dying a thousand deaths between Malham and Burnsall - great little road though. I can't belive people were struggling round on race gearing (53/39).Fair play to you. How did you get up Langbar? Life could be easier with a compact - nobody would know.
Great day. Thanks very much. The stew looked nice but I think it would have made a swift return had I eaten any. Definately back next year.0 -

I was with a couple of Yorkshire Road Club guys, a north road club guy and a Yorkshire Velo (tall) guy for approx the last third of the ride.

Greetings lmrt [:D]
I cramped up badly (well actually I cramped up quiet well!) on Langbar and walked a fair chunk of it. Not surprisingly didn't catch back up with you guys.
I was in pieces from the Coal Road onwards - that's what comes from staying with Carl Saint and Lloydy until Hawes [B)]

Thanks for the heads-up, markh_mcsd. I'm in there, looking suitably glum! I don't remember where the photograph was taken - I'm guessing somewhere in the last third (i.e. after the sun-stroke started!)
Lloydy is on page 13, in a very aerodynamic position.0 -
Hi Doug H
Good to catch up with you in the virtual world of cycling.
That group we had going was great for me, after being dropped from my own club's group early on. I must have felt better towards the end of the ride as I was able to get up Langbar without walking, whereas I'd had to push it 3 times up previous steep bits of hills (yes, I admit it!). More power & lower gears if I do it next year!
Sorry that you cramped up, you can never tell what will happen after 6 hours hard riding in that heat, plus, if you were with Carl Saint and Dave Lloyd for 50 odd miles, then that would have definitely taken a lot out of you.
Recover well,
Cheers fella0 -

so it was sunstroke-were you dehydrated aswell?

Yeah Ken, I was dehydrated. Not so bad that I stopped sweating, but I certainly didn't drink (or eat) enough. From my memories of what bottles I had to fill, I had only drunk 500ml by the first feed, another 500ml by the second, and another 1000ml by the third. That might seem a lot to the guys that I saw with only one bottle (god knows how they manage!) but it's not enough for me.
I'm guessing it was sun-stroke, as the symptoms certainly match. I was cold and had goosebumps (!) on the latter bits of the ride, was sleeply, and couldn't concentrate. I still have a headache, which isn't something I normally suffer from.
I'll just be chalking this whole episode up to experience, I suppose. Combine my lack of miles this calendar year (1040 incl FWC & WRC) with these amateur mistakes and I can't expect anything other than a poor performance. I'm sick of listening to myself moaning about it, lol. Apologies if you all are.
Hopefully I can get my exams out of the way so that I can dedicate myself to cycling a bit more. That way I'd hopefully get back into the top 10% - 25% where I was finishing in 2006.0 -
Results now up.
Sorry for the delay with the results, I'm usually able to post them within 24 hours but was waiting on the files to arrive.
Not to mention the two hospital trips including 1 chemo & 1 scan session. [:(]

Thanks for your efforts under difficult circumstances, Booboo.
My day put me 286th on time for the 185km course. That's a long scroll from the top of the list! It started okay (68th on time at first feed) and then went steadily downhill thereafter, with 122nd at the second and 184th at the third. And my split time between the third feedstation and the finish was the 373rd fastest out of 393 riders! [:I]
Ken on the other hand, is a master of consistency! Not more than twenty one places variance (in position on accumulated time) throughout the ride, and a great time to boot. Chapeiu! [:)]0 -
Was even further down the list for me! 389th.0
-
Ah, Cap'n-what might have been...if you'd been able to maintain the form on the first section
Your number crunching skills are to be admired tho'[:)]

Had same prob, click on link, then entry list, then click on back...results appear, found it by accident.
I came in around 16th..very pleased with that. Nearly 50 and 1.5stone too heavy, so not bad. Felt sorry for the Deeside pair they just missed gold, the young girl had a kind of astma attack on Langbar and lost a few minutes, they had dropped me on the steep bit and would have been well inside 5hours 15 mins.0 -

A possible explanation......some browsers cache web pages and use the 'old' version. If you click the refresh/reload button (depending on your browser) then it should load the latest version of the page as opposed to the cached version.0
-
I suspect it was the caching problem. Have got to them now, thanks very much.0
-
For some reason, I seem to have missed having my time recorded at anywhere other than the start, second feed and finish.
So, while I had a total time, I don't have a place or splits for the ride (not massively bothered - finishing was the key for me).
Otherwise, well organised and all that. Hope the Dragon's easier!0 -
Appologies for everyone waiting for their certificates. I'll get them out as soon as I can, but hospital visits for chemotherapy (myself and my wife) mean I'm behind in many jobs. [:(]
