There is a wide window of starting times for this sportif on Sunday
I'd like to have the opportunity of riding with similar standard riders-aiming for 7h 10m-below is likely to beyond my absolute limit. My time on FWC was similar
What time will people be setting off? (likely to be somewhat dependant on the forecast too)

I was planning on making that my target time, but I'm riding like a bag of spanners at the moment. I hadn't thought about a start time yet - fairly early I suppose though.0

I've spoken to Booboo. That the route is longer and tougher than last year, means that gold will indeed be a rare metal...
anyway, I plan to start around 8.30am, unless the weather dictates otherwise.See you there?
Booboo may be popping into the forum, and no doubt will have something to say

That's an hour faster than my target, Ken, but I hope to see you there at the start or finish.

It will be an early start for me. I am hoping to get round somewhere around the 9 to 10 hour mark. It's going to be a long day............0

Yep, think I was being a little too cruel [}:)], so have adjusted the time standards... see how you get on.
Still looking for helpers if anyone fancies a free entry next year. See website for details.

If I wasn't riding it, I'd gladly help out...I'd quite like to marshal next year

Booboo, is it too late now to change which route you do? My dad has had to drop out due to work (although he's instead doing the Ryedale Rumble) and I was gonna jump up from the 80km to 133km ride.

Andy,
You and I may be on similar target times, I did 7:47 to your :42 on the Etape du Dales, what time are you setting out and I may or may I keep you company for the first 20yds!!
PS remember.....no overtaking!

Nobby stiles and weather permitting, I'll be there.
My fitness sucks at the moment (too little riding) so I'll not be busting a gut for a mediocre time. I think I'll just treat it as an extended training ride (just like the FWC) as it gives me a time to beat next year.0 -
Im doing this ride with a group of friends who are in training for the end to end later in the summer. Normally i would have got off on my own and gone for a gold medal time, but instead im just going to have a steady jaunt around with them with no target time involved, although im sure we will finish in a time between 8 & 9 hrs. If the weather is fine its just going to be a nice day out cycling in the Dales.0

Hi Simon, That sounds like a plan. Am hoping to start 730-800, hope to see you there!
Ken I've got a private bet with myself as to where the exact point is that you'll overtake me. If I win, I owe myself a tenner. If I lose, I owe myself a tenner.

Or did you mean Langbar?
It would be good to meet Cap'n Fagor-what time do you plan to start and what will you wear (short of a red rose and carrying The Times)
The forecast is improving so I'll be wearing my usual Campag pink/turquoise top, and red Assos shorts (don't comment)

Hi Ken,
I'll try to start at around 8:30 then, and at least start the ride in a C+ group! Hopefully a physio session on Friday will help make it more likely that I'll stick around for longer!0 -

Ken - I don't have a plan as yet, but will probably start at 8am to 8:30am. I'll wear my Assos Mumu top which should be easy to recognise! I'll keep a lookout for you and your red shorts. [:0]
I'll either be riding a white Giant TCR0 (a triple) or a Litespeed Tuscany (a compact). Do you know if there's any steep stuff on this route? If there's not, then I don't have to tackle fixing the bottom bracket squeak that's recently developed on the Giant. [:(]0 -

I guess if we miss each other, I'll find you by the squeak...

Well, hopefully I'll see everyone there then! I'll be on a blue Langdale, in mostly white Giordana.
I made myself feel slightly better about the ride by plotting on Bikely, which reckons that there's 2500 m of climbing, rather than the 4000 m claimed on the event website. Given that Bikely ascent estimates are usually about right, I'm choosing to believe it!0 -

You may well be right, Steve! I'll let you know in due course.
I don't think I'm any fitter than last year, so as a slow old git, I think the best I can hope for is a finishing time of about 8hrs 30. If anyone else thinks they'll be in that time bracket, they're welcome to keep me company.

Having got round the Fred Whitton in 7 hours 53 this year, I would like to try and get round in around the 8 hours. I will be interested to see how the route compares in difficulty with the FW.
Although the FW has more climbing, it also has some significant flat or rolling stretches where time can be made up and back muscles rested. Looking at the White Rose, it would appear to be one hill after another. It would be good to meet up with you again Andrew. What time were you thinking of starting? I have to apologise if I don't immediately recognise you, because I'm crap at remembering faces, so please don't think I'm being rude if I ignore you! I'm not sure what jersey I'll be wearing, but I will be on my blue Hewitt.

Hopefully the squeak will be gone by tomorrow. I've got the lockring off and am now getting some blood back into my arms to have a go at the other side. How this thing ever squeaks is beyond me! Perhaps it was just the chainset allen bolts.....
Regarding the brutality factor, I'll probably be asking myself a similar question before (and possibly during) the event. I had a gentle 42 mile ride on Thursday which for some reason knocked the stuffing out of me, so that doesn't bode well!! [:I]0 -
Well lads I wish you all the best on Sunday, its going to be tough...but at least with the latest weather prediction it'll be nice and warm...Dales are just lovely when its nice...
In fact I'm up tomorrow at 4.45am...picking up Bro then heading to Nateby to meet up with a few Kendal Lads....doing a stiff 60 miler....Nateby - Lams Moss - Keld - Tan Hill - Healaugh - Fleak Moss - Askrigg - Hawes - Up Widdale - Newby Head - Cowgill - Coal Road - Garsdale - Mallerstang - Nateby
I'll be thinking about you all when descending the Coal Road into Garsdale....i'll be flying down after the terrible ascent from Cowgill...you WONT be flying up[xx(]
Have a great day out!0 -

Well, that's the bottom bracket removed, cleaned, re-fitted and it still squeaks! And now the 'kin middle chainring rubs the front derailleur in first, second and third and my cable adjusters didn't have the range to sort it. AAaaaargh!!
If low gears are required, then it might have to be the Airborne again. In which case, I'll be the idiot with the mudguards doing the rain-dance. [:(!]0 -
After my hammering on 5 Dales I'm glad that I only entered the 133kms version.
Had a ride around top loop Appletree to Halton Gill on Tuesday and didnt find it too bad.
Watch out for the second cattle grid after the climb out of Halton Gill, theres a big gap in the rails on the RHS.
Road also very rough on the lane between Cracoe and Thorpe, could be puncture alley.
Good Luck to all and give me a shout as u ride past...will have flourecent green ankle bands!0 -

Ach, things have gone a bit pear shaped for me [:(] Dads new job has been plagued with problems, so they were 4 days behind after the first day (somehow), so he's gotta work weekends for a couple of weeks, which rules a lift out, and a friend who lives literally 2 mins from Otley is going to some Buddhist commune for the week.
Oh well, atleast i can still do the Rumble. Good luck to everyone, see you next year.
