Well, Phil S. does have a point. It now looks like all the European makes and it's still a Trek.

Looking a wee bit like a bad rip off of an Orbea Orca. I love my original Madone, the one with the curve in the seat tube. This Trek looks just like Phil S said a bag of $hit.

I think it looks like an Orca rip-off, and it's all the better for it. This is the first Trek I've looked at and thought was pretty, rather than just dull, conservative and functional.

If I had the money for a carbon bike I wouldn't have test-ridden a Trek, until now.

• Yuck it's awful, and I own an original Madone. At least it rules Trek out when I look for a new bike

i,d be mad if i found it
• Beautiful! I wish I could afford one.
• the 1st pics a bit misleading, looks like a huge frame (for the over 6ft5's maybe) - the bottom pics a bit better, looks nice..

weight, prices??
• it looks ugly and i agree its a Orbea rip-off...and lets be honest who would have bought a Trek if Lance the Chemist didnt ride one eh ??

My wife, but hers is a 720 hybrid and I think she bought it before Mr Armstrong won at least 5 of his Tours.

Hi there.

My Trek dates from '98, when the tour winner was on a Bianchi...

The reason the original oclv was so successful initially was because it was the first sub kilogram carbon frame - and stiff too.

Cheers, Andy

I rather like it. The colours are not to my taste, but not a bad looking bike. Certainly better than the previous version.

Hi there.

Hate to disagree on what is a matter of taste after all... The Madone with the curve in the seat tube was a design disaster. The curve added nothing to the aerodynamics as there was a gap between the back of the tube and the wheel that you could have driven a bus through. It looked like a concept conceived entirely by the marketing department.

Back to the new frame - a compact? Is this a first for trek?

Cheers, Andy

i initially thought that it looked like some horrible upright nodder bike, and i don't think trek did themselves any favours - except maybe with non-cyclists who will probably just look at the swoopy lines - using this photo. however, if you have a look at the madone site, you will see that they provide a more racy geometry and lower headtube version.

and what about the technology: integrated bb bearings (a logical step), continuous seat tube, and oversize headset bearings. we've seen all these thimgs before, but never on the same frame. it looks like the way forward: i'd buy one.

Hi

I didnt buy my Madone thinking that the curve would provide any areodynamic advantage, i purchased it cus in my opinion and im sure many people will disagree its a cool looking bike & i managed to get the 10spd Ultegra version at œ1500

Back to the new frame, after having a quick peek on the Trek website i now cant decide if i like it or not. Dispite been a loyal Trek customer going way back to my MTB days i dont think i would buy it if i was in the market for a new bike, the original picture isnt the best of pictures of the bike.

horrible looking frame. i really liked the shape of the older treks (except for the gimmicky seatpost aero fin). The traditional geometry gave them a nicer look than the specialized/giant/whatever compact frames. the new one looks totally derivative. probably a good frame like the last one and maybe a good buy if hugely discounted at end of season.

Sadly, a lot of people espouse negative comments for no other reason than it's a Trek, associated with Lance and therefore must be inherently bad; some folk need a life!

I've got a 2 year old Trek Madone SL; lovely frame, great price, life time warranty...I should give a sh!t if people don't like Trek!!

That said, the head tube is a bit unsightly on the photo but I'd hardly say it's a bag of ... or that it's ripping off the Orbea; the Madone colours match their general decals of old.

If I had the money would I buy it...like anything; if the price is right! But it's not the bonniest of bikes, I'd accept that.

It is very different isn't it ? I think I like it - compact geometry seems the way to go now.
• i like it. good to see someone address the Bottom Bracket issue and finally widen the bb to provide a wider platform for larger bearings. good work Trek

That is a big bike (62cm) in the top picture and it's also the performance model with the longer headtube tube - it was one huge bike. The smaller looking one in the bottom picture is the race model and gives a better idea of the range which you can also see on the Madone website.

It's certainly a big change in design and initially I'm not overly impressed, no doubt that will change after looking and seeing them more often in the future!!!!!!!!!!

I don't like the idea of that seat tube. I don't see there being any real gains by using that system and it would put me off buying it. I want to be able to replace the seat pin if it fails and not buy a new frame. I also want to be able to buy a seat pin from any bike shop, not to be forced to go to Trek to buy a manufacurer specific item.

Hmm - Trek now appear to be inferring that they practically 'invented' the carbon bike and this is some sort of evolution - sorry - but is there anything new or innovative about this design? Integrated bearing - err no integrated seatpost, err no, compact frame, err no.....just a very ordinary deriative design that only someone with half-closed eyes would mistake for an Orbea Orca. They're still trying to associate Armstrong's wins with it too - he would have ridden a pink Huffy with bar-end streamers for the money, so that's irrelevant too. This is more mindless marketing drivel and just demonstrates what design by committee can achieve - boring, uninspiring and completely lacking in soul.

it's all a matter of perspective, I mean how many of you have ridden loads of top end bikes anyway? Maybe your knowledge comes from pictures alone?

Working in a bike shop which recycles abandoned bikes, and repairing rusty crud all day, any top end bike looks nice, and one with all these innovations together looks great.

If you want to slag the trek off, post a pic of your bike, and we'll all judge that!

Some overlap with the Lemond Tete de la Course - only to be expected I suppose.

It's the paint that makes it look like an orca.
• Not a big fan of Compacts and not a big fan of Treks, so I suppose its logical that I'm not a big fan of this machine.

It's vaguely like an Orca, but the Orca has more style and suits midget Basque climbers better.
