Yeah I've seen reports that full cycling coverage will in the future only be available on the full TNT package which is £30+ a month 😕

Wow, that's gone from 'we'll never pick up new cycling fans' to 'we'll lose significant chunks of current cycling fans'

    Talk VPNs again to me.

I assume Snooker Radar and Tennis Radar are going to be up in arms about this too.

I wonder will a month pass still be available via Amazon Prime.

I'd buy a pass for Feb and maybe March and make do with TDF highlights

Not ideal, but I'm not getting into £360 a year

Hope S4C/TG4 hold on to the Welsh & Irish rights

well that's frustrating, my disco sub was set to kick in again in March, seems like I may as well cancel it and look to other solutions, if I am that motivated that is.

If it is just the uk getting shafted, potentially viewing options might exist within proper Europe.

Could potentially set up a new account/e-mail address for ANother provider in Europe and utilise a proper VPN.

Disco app uninstalled and sub cancelled via google play.

It seems to be €5/month or €50/year in Germany. I'm guessing it will require a VPN to watch as well as sign up (assuming they accept UK credit cards) which is a risk as the IP can easily be blocked.

  • pblakeney
    pblakeney Posts: 27,852

IP blocking is definitely a thing as I gave VPN a trial and Prime Video blocked all access.

My Disco+ running out earlier this month and not renewing seems to be lucky timing now.

The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

My parents live in Spain, and I'm heading there for just over a week in March, might have to carry out some testing whilst I'm there - I don't speak Spanish, so I'd need a language option as well.

I guess I could get him to pay on his Spanish CC if it came to it, pay him back, but then the key would be whether a decent VPN would give the required results.

So is the theory that Discovery+ will exist in most places, just not the uk?

Seems like they are getting wise to VPNs sadly, though setting your DNS server to one in another country looks like it might be more fruitful.

Just left a ton of feedback on their 'leaving survey' - doubt it will be read of course.

I'm trying to think of it as a good thing, as much as I loved watching cycling, it was often something I had on in the background rather than focussing on in detail - I'd often also watch it whilst on the turbo carrying out a TrainerRoad workout - I still have my good value TR sub, but have been loving Rouvy, and the Rouvy races, and that doesn't allow for the watching of anything else, as you need to pay full attention, so my opportunities for watching are vastly reduced if I'm being honest, so maybe it's not all bad.

The Rouvy sub for 5 people works out at a crazy ~£5 each per month, plus you can pause for up to 6 months I think, incredibly flexible and good value plan.

I know they are bound by their paymasters, but reading the exited quotes from Rob H, Orla and Blyth was pretty galling.

So, from £40 per year, to £6.99 per month, and now £30.99 per month.........And for loads of content I don't want to watch.

Niche sports behind a massive paywall is never going to end well.......And I can guarantee the MTB community will be calling for Red Bull TV to return for the MTB World Cups which will get even less exposure.

So in about 18 months it's basically gone up from about £20 a year to £371 in the name of offering "a single, premium viewing experience for sports fans". Well whoopde doop.

As I'm now going to be losing ES from my Virgin package I think it's time to review my overall package with a view to going elsewhere and save some money.... long overdue on my part.

I got mine reduced when they took out BT Sport last time, so maybe get it cheaper again when it renews in July.

That's pretty much what I put in my feedback to them - maybe if I was well off and retired I might consider it, but I would not get the value out of it currently.

I can buy a whole new (used) bike for my turbo trainer for that amount!

Once upon a time I bought a 12 month sub to ES for £1.99!

£19.99 per annum was there for a while, then I think it doubled to £39.99, then when we went to £6.99 per month, I was happy to do so and just pause it during the months I didn't need it, so that worked out at about £42 or £49 per year, but to go from that to £371 is phenomenal.

I'd already stopped subscribing when Eurosport Player disappeared, and watching it through the Virgin TV app. Now that's going to disappear and I think I'd have to pay £18 a month for only what's on the TV (without the app).

I've immediately cancelled my subscription, and to be honest I'm not sure I can face navigating VPNs and all the hassle of playing ip block whackamole so that's probably me lost to the sport. I'm sure they'll feel the loss deeply, obviously.

With pretty much every form of streaming now frantically trying to gouge people for every last penny, it's hard not to feel like we've got a massive failure of the market here - across the whole media landscape and not just sport. I don't know how you'd even begin to rein it in though.

If it was £10-12 per month, I'd grudgingly pay it - and cancel something else. But £30.99 isn't justifiable.........

If you want "the sports", you have to help pay for their football rights now.
