It might be down to my realisation back in the late 90s, with my first Windows 95 PC, that computers did what my mess of a brain doesn't do, and that's to force me to think where to file stuff so I can find it when I need it. Old habits die hard.

On a serious note, my brother just dropped a bombshell to our Bank Manager that he plans to keep the business going until he is no longer here and take semi-retirement whilst someone else runs it day to day. He appeared to be side eyeing me as he mentioned this. As I am planning on full retirement well ahead of retirement age, he may have to rethink his plans!

If there's a situation where you do want everything in writing, transferring a business would be it. Are you tempted at all or is it a flat no.

To be fair it would not be a flat no at the moment. It really does depend on where the business is over say the next 8-10 years and also if there is any family member to pass it on to (which there isn't at present). There are a few impending business challenges which we have to sort in the coming 12 months around long term staffing and machinery/infrastructure, so perhaps a good time as well to have an honest discussion about possible exit plans (or not as may be the case) for each of us.
