Do we need an additional thread: Extra S*** Small Races that Pidcock might get an invite to?

    Ouch.

The TDU is almost upon us. Still can't believe it's actually WT. I wouldn't normally bother with watching anything much of this, given how S*** and how Small it is, but ADVANCE VIKING KLAXON WARNING: Albert Withen Philipsen is racing it for Trek, and I'm sure everybody is as excited as me to get a peek of him in a pro race.

I wouldn't bet on that if I were you.

I've put £100 on him winning every stage outright and finishing top 5 on the general classification.

Harsh to include the biggest race in the southern hemisphere in this thread. Oh, wait, no it isn't - so much for World Tour!

Edit - they do have the Worlds in the southern hemisphere this year though.

Great shout. Beat Paul Sexy-ass in the only stage races they competed against eachother in last year.

Plapp misses out on his apparent season's focus by finishing runner up to Durbridge in the National Championships.

  • If a race takes place in Adelaide in January and no one is around to watch it, does it really mean the season is back ?

Was a fairly boring stage despite the big teams flubbing it up. Given the circumstances it should have been more fun to watch, but the flub was quite large and the roads so wide, leading to no real suspense and weird pack dynamics. Can group 2 syndrome spread to an entire peloton on a "sprint stage"? It seems so with EF in particular riding weirdly and rather unhelpfully.

    Worthy winner.

W-TDU decent enough stage 2. Worth watching the 2 ascents of Willunga Hill.

Stage 3 yawn was pretty boring. Why bother going off the front if you're not going to commit to it?

Welsford repeating his TDU sprinting glory of last year.

Was G signing autographs out the back or is he having an Annus Froomius retirement year?

Not really a surprise, last two years G has done nothing until making the podium of the Giro

He's also said on Insta that he was ill overnight

Having said I was going to try and pay attention to the TDU this year because of Withensen, it turns out I can't get any coverage at all here in DK. This is despite it being carried by Discovery elsewhere, which in DK is part of Max, which I have. Bastards.

Ctrl-c Ctrl-v for stage 2. Great to see a kangaroo give them a run for their money though.

It may the shittiest of shit small races, but I see that young lad, Francesco Mancebo won a race in Mauritania today.

Hard to believe that he’s still only 48.

Proper race today: breakaway, crashes, a selection and a solo victor. What's Spanish for flying mullet?

My Man™ (boy?) Albert Withen 4th on the stage and into the white jersey and top ten on GC. 18 yrs old and gets his first pro UCI points, not bad at all.

Not having seen the actual racing, just the standings, I'm now enraged to hear that Lidl-Trek had 5 riders in the group of twenty (and who went on to sprint for top ten placings!) but didn't work to pull the lone rider back so Withen could sprint for the win. Big, big mistake. Lack of radio instruction being blamed, but FFS, you're a quarter of the group, show some nous.

It was so obvious that they should be working to set up a sprint, that even Jez Cox noticed.

You have to see it to believe it.

4 of them quite happy to sit at the back of the small group and watch the world go by.

The odd Trekkie out being Bauke Mollema, who got busy stopping anyone from chasing Oliver.

Happy that they got what they deserved from the stage-nothing.

Decent spot of hill climb action today.

INEOS delivered Narvaez (& possibly Sheffield) beautifully to the bottom of the climb and the GC leader gave it a decent poke off the front for a while too. Jayco seemed to execute multiple strategies, none of which came off.
