Is zwift worth it?

To be honest, I don’t know… I find all these apps rather boring… they are OK if you focus solely on the effort, but anything more and they are very very dull. I find it very challenging to spend more than 30 minutes on the trainer, so I tend to join a short race or do a training session where I turn myself inside out… can’t replace a 2-3 hours ride with that… some can, I can’t…

If you compare the graphics of something like Zwift with the latest products of the gaming industry, you see how behind it is… and hasn’t really improved much.

It seems odd to complain about a lack of innovation when you can't come up with what innovation you want.

I suspect the graphics side you mention is due to trying to keep the required spec for machines able to run the game as low as possible.

I think there is so much variety on Zwift it is quite incredible and if you find events that you like and repeat them, and become engaged then it becomes quite social. Join in with the banter and the time goes quicker.

With the length of time on the trainer, I think you have decided beforehand that you dislike it and it is a chore, and that becomes self-fulfilling. That said, 2.5 hours on there is a loooong time, but I do 90-120 minutes most weekday evenings at this time of year.

It will never be better than a good outdoor ride in nice weather though.

    OK, I try…

training sessions could be implemented with AI, guiding you and correcting errors on the spot, rather than always the same message coming on the screen.

Racing could be guided to avoid the first minute of every race being a rush to push 600W to drop everybody else, which is not very realistic.

Generally speaking, AI could be implemented to learn from your data and recommend sessions and workouts based on those, instead everything is very generic.

As I said, it’s all well behind the curve and for 200 quid per year, it’s just not good enough, given the competition

Sports washing doesn't work the same as other business models so don't worry so much about your data on mywhoosh.

zwift has never appealed to me, and I have tried it once.

I'm a longtime TR user, and don't have any real plans to change, will unless they drastically push my yearly bill up, but what I am planning to trial, over the festive period, is Rouvy.

Combining that with moving a 42" TV into the garage to get the best out of the videos, will be intrigued to see how it shapes up, and if you pay up front, for either 2 or 5 of you, the price seems very reasonable.

Add to it that you can pause the sub for a period of time, as I would likely not need to use it for 6 months of the year, and it becomes extremely good value.

The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

I don’t need it, but I’ll take it. All my cycling is for purely personal goals only.

FYI - It was Sella Ronda.

On Mywhoosh there seem to be fewer of the 5.5W/kg folks… whether it’s because the faster people are on Zwift or because fewer feel compelled to cheat remains to be seen
