Seemingly trivial things that intrigue you

Where is the rear window, did they forget to mask it before they started painting?

That was my first thought. It looks like they've headhunted the designer that did Musk's cyber truck thing.

Can't remember what car I looked at recently but they'd done away with a rear window in favour of a screen which was pretty much condemned as the worst thing on the car

What exactly do you think is 'right on' about the video? Is it the bright colours? Or the slightly androgynous models?
Car looks dull as F.

At least the replacement for the f type looks more conventional.

Might explain why there are so few English people in my area... hurrah! Although it might also have something to do with the fact that it's also a very long way from Tipperary (and London).

Probably for the same reason they were the areas once on English control i.e. easiest to access. Obviously no-one wants to live in the shitty flatlands in the north though.

If it's still got something that is pretending to be a radiator grille, it's not exactly trying very hard to be different. It's just a car.

It's going to intrigue me changing the coil packs and spark plugs on my Almera (almost a proper car)... it's been misfiring, and unusually my garage folk weren't being most helpful on sorting it on a budget. I've checked Youtube videos for my year (2003), and thankfully it looks like the coil packs are right on top, without needing to dismantle anything else. Just waiting to get the bits & pieces back home from another helpful garage friend, then will give it a go, probably on Friday. Wish me luck... have always left this kind of thing to the experts...

Re spark plugs. It's been a long time but as I recall it's not difficult in the slightest assuming you have the correct socket but what you do have to ensure is that the area is clean. You do not want the slightest debris falling in the open port.
Oh, and do them one at a time so you don't mix up the cables.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.Veronese68 wrote:PB is the most sensible person on here.0 -
Thanks. Yep, will defo do one at a time, as I'm good at mixing things up when I get enthusiastic. Will give a good clean of everything with a vacuum then cloths & spirit.

For starters there's no car. If it wasn't for the word Jaguar at the end nobody would have a Scooby what it was trying to advertise. Then there's the weird looking models in weird outfits doing odd things on what looks like a cast off set from the original Star Trek series, all overlaid with a few meaningless 2 word phrases like 'live vivid'. I'm sure there are more.
What makes you think this isn't right on?

If it was 'right on' there would be stuff about sustainability and inclusivity and such. This is just someone who has been flicking through a few fashion magazines, which are in turn riffing off 60s and 70s futurism. It's not got a car in it because it's not trying to sell a car: it's setting the scene for a change of stylistic direction (which is actually pretty retro judging by that concept image).
The closest it gets to 'right on' is 'right on, baby' in the Austin Powers sense.
Brian is spot on with the Thunderbirds reference and likewise the Pink Panther.

Depending on your socket (tightness on the spark plug) and the depth of the plugs in the engine, one of these magnetic pick up tools can be handy. Don't overtighten the new plugs.

I'm hoping I've got a suitable tool coming from Amazon (apparently there's a plastic clippy thing in the socket), but if not, the video I saw had a nice little wheeze using a bit of wire. The title of the video is extremely apt for me, as far as cars go.

It's DEI bollox rather than trying to sell a car so that's enough to make it right on for most people. But this is Cake Stop...

No it isn't. You just don't understand it because it's not aimed at you.

Some Rick style patronising creeping in there. So who is it aimed at?

Hey, it's definitely not aimed at me either 😆. Fairly obviously a younger market and one outside the UK (and US). The styling is straight out of a fashion magazine, so that also gives a clue as to who they are aiming it at.
I'm guessing you don't have a Vogue subscription 😁.
Whether it will work or not remains to be seen.

Have you seen the prices? Starts at 6 figures and goes up from there. They won't sell many if it's the target market is a younger demographic.

Not that many in this country, no, which is why I think they are looking outside the UK.

I was just emailed about a new Afghanistan tour. Makes sense, the Taliban are trying to promote tourism. Then I looked more closely and one of the tours is women only and will visit a load of Afghan women with female tour guides. It won't have mass appealed, but it intrigued me.

Judging by that advert, Mars appears to be where they're looking.

Yes, there's some retro-futurism in there. Some of the 70s concept cars are trending at the moment on things like Pinterest, so this hasn't come out of nowhere.

No music in that picture either. I believe he sold quite a lot of records. I'm just pointing out where the imagery in the video comes from.
Given that the new Jags appear to be knock off Rolls Royces it seems like the marketing team had a different brief than the styling guys. That said it wouldn't look out of place trolling up and down Knightsbridge or Brompton Road. The kind of kids whose favourite folks buy them a little mews house for when they're in town.
