Col du Joly south side; French Savoie
I had thought I'd finish my season with the Col du Sabot but as the autumn has stayed warm and dry I managed another ride, the climb to the Col du Joly near les Contamines ski resort (ground zero of Covid!).
Tbh I knew the col existed but I had no idea there was a road to the top from Albertville/Beaufort. The climb from Beaufort is some 20km and 1300 vertical meters. The road surface is pretty good on the final climb, just a couple of corners with broken surface otherwise a nice, fast, technical descent. I figure you could do a loop via les Saisies, St Gervais with a gravel bike for 70km round trip.

Another fab video! Again, like you didn’t know this route existed!

Thanks! Will add this to the schedule for future cycling hols. We found the Sabot almost by accident in September. You certainly know how to find "the road less travelled".

In this case I was looking for something like the Sabot - a big south facing climb as it is litterally freezing in the shade in the bottom of the valleys and I was worried about black ice. Snow has blown in now closing everything at altitude for the winter.
