Today is route presentation day. Main rumours have been Ventoux and Alpe d'Huez, plus 3 summit finishes in the Pyrenees

May as well give the YJ to Pogacar and tell him to do something else then leave the rest to race.

Not sure JV will agree!

I don't think even Vaughters genuinely believes Carapaz is a serious contender.

Too many JVs in pro cycling!
Bit like being a Bath fan, having JC1, JC2, JC3 and JC4 over the years!

It's not as if nobody's trying to help: the team became VLAB and the rider took his wife's surname but neither change seems to have been universally recognised.

Tdf Femmes Route. Also a new Etape du Tour Femmes on the Chambery to Madeleine stage

Men's route, no Alpe d'Huez

Was hoping to rent my mate's place in Font Romeu but the Pyreneean stages are the wrong side (minimum of 4.5 hours drive). Might Channel hop for a day or two but I can see those stages being a bit boring although the Boulogne stage is listed as hilly and I guess there may be some pave on Stage 1 and / or 3? Mur De Bretagne finish yet again, it feels like that gets included a lot now.

Stage 18 to the Loze is brutal - Glandon, Madeleine, Loze - 5,500 m climbing in 177 kms

Stage 19, Albertville to La Plagne is the etape, on Sunday 20th July

My first impression is that it’s a rather uninspired route. Nothing new or novel about it, rather it’s more traditional than we have seen for a number of years.
Meh.

No pave included.

It has the feel of a Jean-Marie Leblanc era route.

It's a proper route. Not reliant on gimmicks for once.

I don’t think the route has ever been reliant upon gimmicks, not that they are all bad.
For instance, one recent gimmick was the return of the Puy de Dome.

The (re) introduction of pave and strade bianche seemed like gimmicks to me.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.Veronese68 wrote:PB is the most sensible person on here.0 -
And the grid start on the already gimmickly short stage to col de portes (i think).

I'd say that's the only truly gimmicky stage and was a complete failure

Yet the Troyes-Troyes stage during this past Tour was extremely well received around here at the time…

Successful gimmick then. 😉

I had no idea Jeremy Corbyn even played rugby

Riders make the race, surely. If Pog, Vingo, Roglic and Remco are all there and in form it will likely be a good race. If it's a one-man demonstration then it probably won't be.
And many a supposedly "good" stage route leads to a less than exciting viewing experience so it's hard to predict with much confidence in advance anyway.

As usual, Inrng has a good overview and picks out some route choices that many have missed:

A pretty bland route; not enough TT-ing, and far too much climbing........GTs should be more than just another watts/kg contest.

Girmay in yellow on Stage 2 I reckon.

Stage 10 might be worth visiting - I've cycled up the Col de la Croix Morand and stayed near lac Chambon - scenic and good cycling
[Castle Donington Ladies FC - going up in '22]0 -
The Massif Central is definitely worth a visit. I stayed a Lac Chambon a few years back, and we road bits of the route, including the climbs , and visited le Mont Dore, which is where the Dordogne starts.

are they going to the Madeleine or just St Francois Longchamps?
