Seemingly trivial things that annoy you

I think if someone came up with a grand unified theory and as a result answered the question then it would be quite interesting.

But some are more special than others.

Nor mine, I think some of the chemo drugs are what does it. Glad I did it when I could, happy to report my son does donate as often as he can.

I used to, until it was decreed that I was not worthy. No idea if the policy has ever changed since, CBA to check.

I used to donate regularly, then spent a few years when I was persona non grata post malaria. Then for some reason they decided I was OK again (anyone know what changed?)
Clocked up enough to get a little badge, but started to become randomly anaemic. Never found out why but they said best to stop the donations ☹️
Took eldest son along to one of my last donations but they buggered up the needle insertion so badly he's never been back. Baffling really; he's got veins like a horse...

I used to like donating and try to expel my blood as quickly as possible by pumping my fist. I think I got it down to just under 2 minutes the last time. The nurse said I was naughty and told me off.
Sometimes. Maybe. Possibly.

The Royal Mail and fonts. I mean, wtf?
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

What font shall we use for correspondence?

If I didn't know better, I'd assume that was a scam, given the random fontage.

You do know better. A partial screenshot of an email to me from them.

Trying to read or post on here with one bar of signal,

I've just read an article by an author who doesn't know the difference between a fuel cell and a battery. Unless fuel cell batteries have been invented.

Reminds me of BBC Breakfast show talking about a space probe going to Neptune and Naga Munchetti couldn't get her head around an 'ion drive' so kept referring to it as an 'iron drive'. Doh!

Is there the smallest possibility of someone installing some f***ing 5G masts is in South London? There is literally better data coverage on underground platforms.

Wait, you can use a phone outside? Wow.

Only having 4G and not 5G means you have 4G. As opposed to nothing at all like in a lot of places where a mobile phone might ordinarily be considered a useful thing.

You could switch to a WiFi hotspot and message.

To clarify, any data coverage would be an improvement, but since 5G is the current standard it would seem perverse to install legacy equipment. If you were actively trying to block data signals across the Thameslink network, you would consider it a job well done.

Here's a typical 5G coverage map for the UK. I checked EE and it claims I have 5G here but I have not seen such a thing closer than the nearest city about 10 miles away, and it is shit there. So let's ignore that.
The UK really should be treating mobile phone connectivity as national infrastructure rather than this hapless peacemeal commercial product rollout we have had. Same issue for 3G and 4G.
I guarantee that in a lot of that map, the signal is "can you hear me now" strength, meaning you can't use it reliably on trains, when travelling for work etc.

Yeah but at least the Government can't control your brain or give you Covid.

This'll be why I don't even have a 5G phone. 😉😂

Doesn't matter if you have the phone or not, it's the waves from the masts they use to do this. The only way to stop it is to destroy the masts (unless you're lucky enough to live in enlightened South London)

There is every chance that neither of us are being entirely serious. 😉

I'm in a green area and have to rely on Wi-Fi calling when at home as the signal is non-existent on some networks and hit and miss on EE that I use. The in-laws a mile down the road have nothing at all. As you say the infrastructure is shocking in many places and will remain that way where the population doesn't justify the commercial expenditure. It's not even lack of 5G (or 4G), it's a complete lack of any form of signal. I really struggle to understand why there are areas in London where it is so bad though, I guess that must be purely down to problems in getting consent to install masts.

I'd have thought a glut of tall buildings is the issue in London. 🤨

Buildings with steel frames aren't great for getting a phone signal. And the RF permeability of stone isnt fantastic.

If I'm out in the sticks I would expect some gaps in coverage. Commuting through zone 2 of the capital, I feel it's not unreasonable to expect at least 4G coverage everywhere above ground.

Why should you expect that? Should it be possible to pick up a signal on a main line train that travels through "the sticks"?
I could get 3 hours work done on a trip to London from Plymouth, but unfortunately there are some sticks for about 90 mins of that.
Don't kid yourself that it is pathetic in this country.

When we cycled the King Alfred's Way, we were surprised at how poor the phone data signal was even in villages of reasonable size. This is compared to the Borders where you have to be well off the beaten track to not have a signal.
