US Politics / Biden thread

at least the democrats are gambling on someone who infamously tanked the last time she tried to run for something.

I really hope that one day Buttigieg will be POTUS. Not only does he seem like a deeply principled politician, but he's properly intelligent and can think on his feet... in lots of different languages too.

Deeply principled? Strike one
Properly Intelligent? Strike two
Able to think? Strike Three and Out
No chance in the US political system
Will leave out my personal belief that a Principled Politician is about as real as Santa.

You might well have a point, but it would be nice if it were possible, despite the political shittery of the present.

Erm, dear Telegraph, would you care to explain what Trump's 'nice guy act' was?
I suspect that Harris won't mind not being likened to Thatcher.

Early days yet, but this is on Fox News today. In itself maybe not massively significant, but if Trump gets cross at being out of the limelight and losing his advantage, he might go even more batshit crazy.

There will come a point when the only language that counts will consist of one and a zero.

The Democrats seem to have stumbled on the attack line against Trump/MAGA
They're weird.

I'm not suggesting she would or could have won, or even come close.
But the timing of her withdrawal, when she could have dragged it on, positioned her for the eventual VP nomination

Indeed... send to be getting under their skin, and a big part of the plan is to Trigger Trump so he goes even batshitcrazier. Trump seems to think that attacking Harris for laughing is going to work.

Interesting analysis on who is likely to win in November, from a political scientist who apparently has a very good track record of calling it right:
"I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." [George Best]0 -
Even if it is winding up the Trumpists, there's a danger that Democrats bore with the #weird focus. That said, boy, they are weird.

Trump probably not quite hitting the right tone here to get the black (or Indian) vote here... just a thought, maybe he has a problem with black women...

Harris's odds are slowly approaching evens.

Interesting attempt to drive a wedge between people with black and Indian heritage, whilst also arguing that people from Mexico are taking the jobs black people could do. He has cotton picking in mind, I expect.
I sincerely hope he expands on this argumentation, because it will help Harris.

Apparently, his advisors pulled him out of the interview early because it was going so badly.
0 -
I think it probably makes it worse that this was at the National Association of Black Journalists convention.

I don't think they pulled him. It started over an hour late as the organisers wanted to run a real time fact check on what Trump was saying and his Advisors would not agree to it.

It's moved the betting odds.

I think he has a problem with anyone that doesn't look like him.
I think a lot of people are missing the point with Trump (in general, not on this forum). You hear the arguments that appearances like this are not hurting Trump with his base. Of course they aren't, but they are starting to hurt him in terms of turning more undecideds towards Harris, and also encouraging more black, Asian and Latino voters to turn out on November 5th.
Part of the reason Trump won first time was the number of women that voted for him, I think a lack of votes amongst all women could well be what costs him this year.

No. The odds are reflecting the new data coming in from the polls following very little polling on Harris vs Trump as a hypothetical.

No one knows more than the market. That includes you.

Apologies for the axes.

You just argued the polling hasn't shifted and we are all doomed.
