Same as yesterday, Arkea lead out sat up and this time caused a pile up.

Arkea lead out causing problems 2 days in a row. Gotta be thrown out.

Who was the lotto rider that decided to take the law into his own hands and actually caused the crash?
0 -
Lotto lead out man had nowhere to go this time as Arkea man does exactly the same as Dan McClay, yesterday.

POg sprinted even though he was ten-twenty places back. I'm starting to think he might not actually be too bright.

Was it McLay again? Couldn't tell from the pictures. The team needs a heavy fine.

Quite a few points dropped there by Girmay too.
Edit - he was 4th so not as bad as I'd thought.
0 -
He probably thought with so few left after the crash that he might nick 3rd place and 4 seconds bonus if others got boxed in and sat up.
0 -
He was just up there when the crash happened so probably didn't want to let a gap go. It won't have taken anything out of him.

After that stage, it made zero difference in the energy expended department.

Wasn't the Lotto rider's fault. Surprised to see the Breakaway lot saying it wasn't the leadout rider's fault, for me he should have kept going on his line rather than pulling over.
0 -
It was both.
It looked quite likely that the leadout rider drifting back would have got hit by one of the rider's behind anyway, but the lotto rider decided to make sure there was room for him in a way that was guaranteed to cause a crash.

How times have changed - a rider drops out due to rumoured Covid and talks to the press without a mask with them crowded around him.

Head on the Lotto rider looked to share fault but the overhead pretty much clears him of blame.

Lotto rider literally shoulder barges the Arkea guy off the bike. There was space for him without the shoulder barge. Lotto rider's fault, BUT commisares need to issue a general warning to the lead out riders.
0 -
Are sure? both views seem to show the Lotto rider shoulder barging the other rider out of the way.
Well the UCI thought he was at fault as they have fined him 1300€ and docked him 60 uci points.

Doesn’t surprise me.
Same rational as with Cav’s demotion and fine.
If it wasn’t already obvious, Robbie McEwen said on the Breakaway, that none of the jury had ever ridden in a bunch sprint.

I watched this several times and I can’t believe that he’s not been thrown of the race. It looks blatant to me.

I can’t believe no-one thought to comment ‘don’t push too hard’ when Jumbo caused that first split!
1 -
Still think the lotto rider is innocent - the other guy is daydreaming - stops pedalling and drifts left.

It doesn't have to be one or the other. They both acted idiotically. The lotto guy was going nowhere and rode dangerously, the arkea guy had totally shut down after his turn.

The lead out guy caused the crash

The actions of the Arkea lead out guy here were not as bad as the day before imho, at least he parked up at the side of the bunch not in the middle!

The Lotto guy was going nowhere? He was leading out De Lie, so he must have been going somewhere.
Or do you mean because the slowing down Capiot blocked him in on the barriers?
It's an open invitation for lead out riders to start blocking opposition sprinters, if you think that the Arkea rider was blameless.

It doesn't have to be only one of them. They were both at fault.
I'm not sure De Lie will be particularly happy with the outcome.

The Lotto guy is going through a gap - the leadout drifts across and the Lotto guy is just acting in self preservation.

I am not sure what Van Gil's alternative is, that folks solely blaming Lotto for the crash, can see.
De Lie is right behind Van Gils, so if he breaks, De Lie hits his back wheel and crashes. Who knows what the domino effect would be in that scenario.

Yep, he was flat out with nowhere to go once the Arkea rider drifted into his channel. I’m really struggling to understand what people think he should have done.
