Symonds Yat to Tintern is the more interesting bit.

Was walking there yesterday. It's nice.

How did they respond?

Immediately, via my tweet and DM. Apologetic, and contacting the transport team to see if they can identify the driver. I'd just like him to know it's a silly idea getting vocally angry at cyclists who were riding sensibly and legally when he's on work time in an identifiable vehicle. I'm sure it won't change his anger issue, but he might think twice about doing again it in work time. And his card will be marked, I'd hope.

Yep, was going to say Monmouth itself isn’t the best part of the valley (although it does fall in the section between Symonds Yat and Tintern). Symonds Yat to Biblins and then maybe Bigsweir down to just north of Chepstow are very nice. The Eagle’s Nest through to Piercefield Park is a nice walk as is Devil’s Pulpit near Tintern.

Getting 150CHF refund on the crappy Geneva Sixt hire car. Given it got us everywhere we wanted to go, I'll take that.

That this hailstorm missed my French house... they do seem to be getting more frequent and extreme in the area... there are still damaged roofs in the closer village that got hit last year.

It seems I jumped the gun on thinking my road bike rear mech cable was sheared, when the mech wouldn't shift in either direction the other night, albeit if sheared i would expect the mech spring to pull the cage under the 11t sprocket.
All looked fine behind the hoods cover, started the indexing process from scratch and a short test ride looked promising.
The potential mare of replacing the cable through the frame is on hold. \o/

Ha, a good cycling friend of mine having written some of the jingles and mastered the sound for this. Maybe @rick_chasey will be wasting some hours on it...

Wasn't sure if this was more suited to the irony thread, but anyway...

Someone I used to coach* has made the Olympic cycling squad
*She was beyond the stage that the generic BC Level 2 “inside pedal up when you’re cornering” etc. when I started helping out but I’m still going to bask in reflected glory.

'Nice': should ring alarm bells - you sure it isn't a scam?

Yep, no links in email, logged into HMRC on another device with code sent to mobile that I didn't provide today. Nice little refund expected in few days.

My first in almost 30 years, last time I had to fill in forms and send request by post, this time they contacted me before I got around to looking into it... Progress!🤣

Being support vehicle for an unknown cyclist today.
WVM behind me was tailgating, flashing lights and gesticulating. He clearly expected me to squeeze between the cyclist and the oncoming stream of traffic. He was disappointed. Wonder if he thinks I give 2 f's about his hand gestures? My good deed for the day was possibly avoiding an accident and definitely giving a rider safe passage, it cheered me up.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.Veronese68 wrote:PB is the most sensible person on here.0 -

I wonder why they’re complaining about the investigation that showed their activists encouraging shooting immigrants and making homophobic comments? Of that’s what they think they should have the courage of their convictions. Bunch of snowflakes.

The French Green politician, Marie Pochon, who gave me a lift from Die to Crest, has easily won the first round in the constituency. More than double the vote of le Pen's far-right RN. Even if nationally things go pear-shaped, at least my area isn't such hotbed of Penists, even if 16% is still too many for them.
I guess Macron is banking on the anti-Penists coalescing around less extreme candidates in the second round, once the fringe candidates have been eliminated. It's been a record turn-out for the first round, which at least means that people have realised that the stakes are high.

Yeah, not good. Actually, I've discovered that Pochon (the Green) got 59% in Die itself, three times the Le Pen candidate. But there are wide variations in the larger constituency. First time I've really tried to work out what's going on, but it's rather consequential this time.
Would be genuinely interested in how voting patterns this time compare with the strength of the Résistance in WW2. All I know is that around Vercors, where the Maquis (and Radicalism, and before that, Protestantism) was very well supported, a lot of that left-wing, bloody-minded mindset seems to be a continuing feature of their politics.
