S*** Small Races 2024

Jonas Abrahamsen takes his first pro win in the Brussels Cycling Classic. Very nicely timed attack at the top of the last climb and stayed away with a Quickstep rider before dropping him 5km out. Girmay won the sprint just behind him from the first part of the peloton.
It was a cracking little race this year. Girmay animated it with efforts on Kapelmuur and Bosberg to split the peloton

Yikes, Groves has raced twice since the Giro and placed top 10 in both. I thought sending Tiberi to the Dauphine was fairly hard core.

I think it's fairly common for a few riders from the Giro to ride the Dauphine. Fortunato is another one who is doubling up.

Discovery+ are apparently covering the Giro Next Gen starting tomorrow. It'll be a chance to cast an eye over young Belgian Jarno Widar (second youngest rider in the race) who is being tipped as a future superstar.

Complete fkup by SD worx at final stage of Women's ToB.
Kopecky tries to gift win to Majeurus, who celebrates prematurely to lose it on the line. Won by Roseman Gannon for Liv

FFS you get across the line before you pose for your instagram post. How many times?

Sad that this is the only comment of four days of racing the women's Tour of Not Past My House really.
I'll confess that I hardly watched any of it, being more interested in the Dauphiné, but seems a shame we couldn't get it together to post a short stage recap or pic of them going past *somebody else's house* or something. Did anyone pop out to see them? Looking at the Welsh and NWers here especially, given the route

Didn't go past my house (all much further north). I watched the stage that went over Horseshoe Pass on TV but got distracted and didn't see the finish!

As there has been no comment anywhere else I assume Tour De Suisse belongs in here. Yves Lampaert took the 'not worth getting out of bed for' 4.8km TT from Bissegger and Hayter. My inspired PTP pick, Soren Waerenskjold, doesn't appear in the results so I assume ended up not starting after I chose him.

Weird, Uno X aren't in the race so either I had the wrong startlist or they dropped out at the last minute.

Didn't go past my house but we did go out to Horseshoe Pass on Friday to watch. Decent crowd and a great vantage point as you can look down over the valley to see them coming up the lower section on the "horseshoe".

Women's Tour of Britain
We watched every stage on ITV4. Mostly unpredictable* and entertaining racing.
Terrible weather for final day
Team GB showed up well
*Well, unpredictable to me.

Giro Next Gen currently on Disco +, no commentary so I haven't got much of an idea of what's going on other than there's a 2 man break with a lead of around a minute and just under 60k to go.

Was thinking similar when I posted. I think the only mention on Bbc sports pages was the bike theft. Seems to be very little interest now, even though there are some very good women coming through.
Does a bit of Wales, and greater Manchester, really qualify as a ToB?

Given what they had to work with and the time they had, it's phenomenal. And given how hard people worked to save the race I feel bad we (I) didn't do a little more to show some interest and get it a bit more hyped.

As @blazing_saddles is clearly slacking badly I've had to step in and create a race thread. His performance review will be difficult this season.

Not true, I saw BBC Sport pieces about each stage

You do need to select "more" on the BBC Sports page and then select cycling, but the stage reports were there.
And BC had a live Blog and live Youtube, and a highlights on You tube....
Just a shame it was overshadowed by the Dauphine for some folks.

Didn't realise it was on itv4, never thought to look, would loved to have seen Horseshoe Pass at least.

Did he come to the front or get dropped, or neither?

Neither. He was cooked already, Herzog carried on with him on his wheel until they were caught

Good racing at the Tour of Slovenia. Healy is on a flyer. Paul Double looking good again, I wonder if he’ll get picked up by a WT team next season?

Some ride by Healey, he certainly didn’t do that the easy way. Worth a watch for anyone who didn’t see it.

I have been on my travels again. Back midweek in time for a bit of catch up prior to Le Tour

Tom Gloag of Visma-Lease a Bike got his first pro win today at the Czech Tour, his first race back after being hit by a car when training last summer.

The annual cycling test event for the Enhanced Games seems to be passing by without any scandal or ceremony this year. Have the Portuguese finally got their act together?

Didn't one of the pre-race favourites abandon after collapsing at the side of the road on one of the early stages? Part of me wants to think it was normal but then he rides for a domestic Portuguese team so Occam's Razor would suggest it was doping related.
Found this on it:
