An evening with SBW

This is coming to a theatre near me in a week or so and I'm quite tempted but would also quite like to know what it's like. Being Bradley Wiggins, it could be 2 hours of reminiscing over a glittering career with some brilliant stories and great impressions or could be 2 hours of intense nitty gritty about...what ever it is he's up to now (and everything in between...)

Geraint Thomas is doing a couple of shows too, in Cardiff (sold out) and London

The last thing I saw from him was very negative about cycling so it could end up being a moan about what a horrible life it was but hopefully not. He really does seem very up and down about the sport so you could get anything as you say. Should be interesting though and he has no need to be diplomatic.

It's a show. He'll be fine. He knows what's expected of him or he wouldn't have signed up to it. There are plenty of stand-up comedians who have suffered from depression.

Sure but it’s more whether the show is telling anecdotes of how brilliant it was or how bad it was.

I’m vaguely interested in this as he has disappeared completely of late so I wonder what the point behind them is. Usually a book or bigger plan on the cards?
Not near enough to bother though so I’ll look forward to any feedback.

I saw him a few years back now, can't recall if it was before or after lockdown though.

    I digress.

The show I saw was an interview format thing with tht Matt Barbet (spelling?) chap, and was a thoroughly entertaining evening.

Ge discussed multiple elements of the sport, plus had a raft of favourite jerseys on stage with him, which all had a story behind them.

Like @Pross, I'm surprised he's touring now, what with his recent revelations and seeming dislike of the sport.

He does have a new partner and baby though, so perhaps that might be a factor.

I won't be attending this time, but like others would be very intrigued to hear what tangent it takes.

  • Only 4 dates left? I'd have been interested in this if it was within an hour's drive.

I dont think he dislikes it quite as much as the article earlier this year suggested. I think people are taking that a bit too seriously- a look at his instagram tells you this.

I think any distancing himself of late has most likely been down to personal life changes and also giving his son a bit of space to be himself with having him dragged into every reference?

Scrolling down from Wiggins who is appearing in some pretty odd places, Bill Oddie also touring. What kind of forum is that discussed on ? 🤔🤣

    Ornographic ones, I'd presume.

The four random dates in very random places piqued my interest too. Has his stock fallen so much?

Three not sold out, one looks like it, and Whitby cancelled for some reason.

I would sincerely hope not, but maybe they have managed to pick places where there is less cycling interest.

  • It's a bit odd if you look at the full tour schedule he's playing places like Barrow in Furness yet nothing in areas like the East Midlands .

Youd assume he’d pick places where it’s easy to travel to. Whitby ;-/

Just saw a reel on the 'gram for a nutritional brand that SBW has become an ambassador for.

    Seems hes taken up boxing.

Went to see ot this evening in Dunfermline.

Very interesting evening. He's got opinions. Very strong ones of governing body and powers that be. He drops some unexpectedly dark nuggets without warning, but very matter of fact. His attitude towards his son's cycling career is exemplary.

He doesn't hate Cycling as previously reported. He hates riding his bike. He hates connections between being and becoming an elite athlete and what it made him do or give up. He still loves watching bike racing. He's still got the encyclopedic knowledge and interest he always had.

Certainly not a lightweight or lighthearted evening, but did have some big laughs.

Get ready for more: 16% of NFL players file for bankruptcy within 12 years of retirement and 78% report being in financial difficulty at some stage post career.

Possible that highly paid sports people have no clue just how much accumulated money is required to maintain their lifestyle for what will be many decades?

The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

I think the Wiggins case was a bit more complicated. He (or his advisers) had set up various trading companies in his name to manage image rights, Team Wiggins and various other business interests trading off his name. This is usually a recipe for disaster, particularly if you as the named person are leaving it down to others and have little clue as to how the companies are being run, which Wiggins has always claimed to be the case.

My post was more a generalisation than just SWB but that is a good side issue. Trusting advisors with blind faith often ends up badly.
