I'm not sure the only function of responsibility is to take the blame for something going wrong.
In terms of fixing the current situations, the immediate fix is probably just a matter of arguing the toss over how much comes from increasing bills and how much from central government.
Longer term, I don't think you can align the incentives of the various parties that are currently involved in such a way that we don't end up with shit in our rivers. So I think you need a pretty serious re imagining of how it all works.

Agreed. Was just making a point that pinning it all on some people might give a sense of vindication but it doesn't actually fix anything.

Do you realise that posts like that will alienate you from the majority of posters on this forum? 🙂
"I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." [George Best]0 -
This brings up one or two things I didn't know (or had forgotten)
"One of the earliest proponents for the nationalisation of the water supply and sewerage (WSS) system was Joseph Chamberlain, who argued in 1884 that "It is difficult, if not impossible to combine the citizens' rights and interests and the private enterprise's interests, because the private enterprise aims at its natural and justified objective, the biggest possible profit."
By 1980, investment in the water sector was just one-third of what it had been in 1970. Margaret Thatcher's Conservative government, which had been elected in 1979, had curtailed the RWAs' ability to borrow money they deemed necessary for capital projects. Daniel Okun said: "Before, they could borrow money everywhere easily. They could get money at very good rates. Restrictions on external borrowing prevented the [RWAs] from getting capital. They were considered ineffective because they could not borrow money. Thatcher prevented them from borrowing and then blamed them for not building." When the European Union introduced stricter legislation on river, bathing, coastal, and drinking water quality, the sector was in no position to meet the expenditure requirements and the UK was prosecuted for noncompliance. Estimates of the capital expenditure required to achieve EU standards and meet the existing backlog in infrastructure maintenance ranged from £24 to £30 billion."
Looks like another of those Tory tactics of deliberately breaking things to make the private sector involvement/takeover the more attractive option than meaningfully dealing with the problem for general benefit.

It does give you an idea as to whether it's a good idea to shovel more money in that direction though.

Oh well.

I'm sure Fox news didn't have any discussion with him about that they were reporting on, beforehand.

Bahaha ok humbug, relax.
In unrelated news, NVIDIA hype is such that it's market cap is bigger than Russia's GDP lol, with $300bn in cash left over
Other comparisons: more than the market cap of the entire german stock market.

Why have they broken it down by continent? Do they actually have a team of people who specialise in presenting data as unhelpfully as possible?

Oceania is not a continent.

Neither is Latin America, but thanks for your insight.

lol 10/10 FA - comment on the data presentation and not the underlying theme. Excellent. Will not be drawn onto that merrygoround.
it is curious that the continent most in need of immigrant labour because of demographics is going through a heavy anti-immigration phase.
Costs of austerity continue to add additional costs that reverberate long beyond the actual fiscal difference.

Lots of people posting short videos of labour or tory tiktoks, showing the comments underneath, going "ooo look, it confirms my prejudice".
Lads, tiktok sends you the content, including comments, that it thinks it wants you to see. Obviously the ones you like are going to be shown underneath the clip you just watched.
God, I remember when people used to say media studies was a mickey mouse course - this lot have no idea.

Is it helpful to bundle Mexico in with the US and Canada? What about South Korea and Japan with India?
The general theme is that Europe is an outlier, which is misleading and uninformative. It is very FT to do this in the interests of eye catching.

Sorry what, that Japan has a low birth rate? What are you on about.

ZZZZzzz boring boring. Unless you prove the underlying data does not show the trend the chart is illustrating it's irrelevant.
Feel free to discuss elsewhere about what granular details is helpful. We could go city by city? region by region? Street by street? Fill ya boots. I can even set up a thread for you to moan about charts on.

The chart is trying to suggest that the issue only applies to Europe. Others have questioned if that is the case as by lumping say Mexico with the USA & Canada it potentially gives a false reading. Likewise, Asia or Oceania - given the issue that some of the economies in those regions are highly developed and others are not, again it distorts things.
Why do you think it wrong for people to pick up the inherent bias in the charts you post?

Korea is in the worst position of all. Lowest birth rate, highest life expectancy and minimal immigration.

How many people on here use Tik Tok? Obviously I've seen videos from it elsewhere, but never been tempted to look at Tik Tok itself. Am I the outlier in that?

-
Sorry that is too much granularity. What continent is that?
0 -
I do like a graph. Does that show that bears do shit in the woods, or have I missed the key issue again?

Do you have any regional data?

Pretty sure Tik tock studies would also be regarded as Mickey mouse

Also, given media studies was basically advertised as "English literature for 1920s films that no one cares for because they are a bit crap". I'm not sure it would really be much help in understanding the rise of Tictok.
Some logic and computing studies to understand algorithms might be useful though.

Right, ok. I’m always happy to gloss over simple factual errors and attribute unchallenged credibility to random users on social media as long as their message suits my point of view.
Have I got that right?
