"He also claimed we’re the fastest growing European economy since 2010, that can’t be right can it?"
I suspect selective statistics.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

Its possibly a fair representation, much of the EU has had pretty mediocre growth. Although I would have thought Poland (for instance) would be higher than the UK

We'd had a fairly sizeable fall in gdp between 2008 and 2010. More than the rest of the EU.
It's a good stat though. Anyone got figures on per capita gdp, as that seemed to be the pet concern when immigration was the hot topic a week ago.

Lol. Nothing more free market than fixing a public contract for your mates.
We're a few steps away from this lot announcing increased state tractor production. But apparently it's us that are the 'lefties'.😆

Should a ministry's official account be regurgitating the Tories' political spin?
0 -
No.
Statement of pure facts is fine. Quoting spin and messaging should be off limits.

This.

Obviously I agree, which is why I posted it, though, to be fair, 'pure facts' can be a grey area. That said, this is nowhere near that grey area, and I would hope that the civil servants who (I assume) oversee this account know that this is totally wrong. If ministers want to spin and regurgitate slogans, they should use their own or party accounts.

Most economists and the BoE were expecting a bigger inflation rate drop than there was, so it's not the good news it's being reported as.
It is also not good for any mortgage owners, as it makes a rate drop less likely.

I enjoy how high inflation was nothing to do with the government, but low inflation is.

If your Foreign Secretary is publicly writing to you to tell you that dramatically reducing foreign students is a stupid idea, maybe it's time for a rethink and to stop getting your vibes from GBN.

My thinking exactly.
What has the government done that lowered the inflation rate?

To be fair, you can be not responsible for an earthquake and then be responsible for the rebuild.
In this case, I give them credit for not doing anything spectacularly stupid to mess it up. Easier said than done for some of our conservative leaders in the recent past.

They, Truss in particular, was responsible in part for spooking the markets.

Inflation was 10% already when she took over.

And the BofE was tightening monetary policy because of that which meant that loosening fiscal policy was nuts at the time. Indeed raising taxes would have likely meant the BofE could have avoided raising rates as much as they did.
0 -
Didn't seem to affect inflation did it?
0 -
Except Japan has a lot of earthquakes that have little impact, because the government imposes strict building controls. Therefore, a link can always be made.

Pure cake stop.

I mean I thought it was a petty point when posting, but then I decided that it was true for anything. The government weren't to blame for Covid, but they can be criticised for their lack of preparedness.
0 -
I do see your point, but I feel like this is more like not blaming them for the earthquake, but then saying they've done a really good job for not having any additional earthquakes.
0 -
You misunderstood the limited amount of credit I was giving. It would be the equivalent of not mandating all rebuilding work be done using jelly. The bare minimum is more than expected from this bunch, and more than we'd have got if they'd persisted with Truss.

"The Conservative Party says MP Lucy Allan has been suspended for backing a Reform UK candidate.
Ms Allan insists that she quit the party in order to support Reform UK candidate Alan Adams in the seat she is vacating.
She publicly gave her support to Mr Adams rather than Tory Hannah Campbell in Telford, Shropshire."
They are leaving the Conservative party to save the country in their droves.
Rats, the lot of them. Rats that were happy to be on the take while the ship was floating.

Where is 'Baroness' (aye right) Michelle Money-Money-Mone? £50 million... Still hiding in Guatemala? #toryscum

Mark Logan. Getting boring now.

Is anyone keeping count of what remains of the 80 seat majority?
I suppose it will be a moot question in 5 weeks anyway.

It’s actually quite an interesting one. As a ‘red wall’ Tory MP I would have expected him to have been more aligned with Reform.

As of yesterday, nothing remains, the country no longer has any MPs, just candidates.

Thank god they have stiffened sentences for fly tipping. At last, someone is thinking about lay-by's.
