Hancock & Redwood added to that list
There's going to be a deluge of quitting this week

I thought Redwood had quit years ago!

Have they all read and taken the Leave Conservative thread to heart? 🤣🤣🤣
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

Energy price cap drop, first election bribe or pure coincidence? I know my thoughts.

A lot of ex politicians we discover the power of coherent speech after their time in office, and start to show why they got there in the first place. John Major is alarmingly thoughtful these days.

So that's roughly 20% of them vs 14% for all the other parties by my reckoning.
I'm not saying it's a great look for the Tories but it's not as dramatically bad as you might expect.

So long as you ignore his role in the blood contamination scandal.

I get the impression that quite a lot of the Tory mps were also caught by surprise

I guess the party leaked so much that they ended up not trusting anyone with any tactics.

Pretty much. One lobby journalist, I forget who, was not very sympathetic "if they weren't chronically addicted to leaking everything within a second of being told, they might have found out beforehand"

He's also genuinely passionate about the social issues and charitable stuff he does in Kirkcaldy - I've heard him on other podcasts talking about what he's doing there.

lol we'll have enough time to realise Labour aren't all that but can't we enjoy the spiral of doom for these utter shitbags?

I life, I think you will either need to never vote and complain about all of them, or choose a basket of policies and qualities you think are the least worst. I don't have all that much patience with, for example, going back over the course of something like Hillsborough, the PO scandal or anything else of similar length, and castigating every politician who had any oversight at any time during that period.

Sure, I just think it's very easy to have a rose-tinted view of semi-retired politicians when they are unencumbered with actual decision making.

It is more frustration to be honest, that either the 15 second newsbite culture or the party political system shields the country from knowing either what they actually think, how complex and challenging the decisions are, or whether or not the people themselves are even intelligent or not.
This morning on R4 I heard Starmer patiently answering the same question in the same way about 5 times. He was simply explaining what he would like to do in the long term ideally, that he needs a better economy first, and what he was going to do right away. The interview was simply cherry picking what he wasn't going to do right away and saying "you have u turned haven't you?"
R4 is supposed to be our long form news station, but frankly it's descended to idiot level as well now, with a policy to just give everyone an equal level of repetitive badgering.
With this media approach, what will we as the electorate be able to find out?

Just heard a Welsh Tory encapsulating the issues they face (lack of self-awareness and being populist). They were using the Labour run Welsh Government as a reason for not voting for them in the GE - apparently they have mismanaged the economy and also the 20mph speed limit is a huge problem.

You're only debating me twice instead of six times must be the worst attack line in political history

See also NHS, struggling all over the country, but because it is struggling in Wales it is a failure of the Labour party.

I feel like Starmer gets slightly better with more exposure, whereas Rishi gets worse.
0 -
That's the reason Johnson didn't bother with the interviews last time.

Jeremy Corbyn is going to stand as an independent.

Rishi will improve because it's so historically bad it will have to revert to mean at some point.

It's going to be interesting to see what happens. Even if his share of the vote last time gets split 50-50 between him and Labour they'll be first and second by a comfortable margin.
