S*** Small Races 2024

A lot of snow at less than 1000 metres in Romandie.
That may not be great news for the Giro. Temperatures even in the Med are currently extremely cool.
My last two days in Mallorca were 10C which is low, even in January.
Hope it’s not going to end up as one of those editions which has a lot of late route changes.

Weird finish in turkey dsm duo were going like a locomotive in the final 100

Nys takes the stage win at Romandie from Vendrame after holding on from the break. Plapp attacked late and caught them but then blew any chance of a stage win by attacking with 300m to go (probably a reasonable assumption that the other two wouldn't be able to stay with him but they did).

Nys also into yellow

Tour of rom S2 decent battle ... A lot of equality

A decent battle amongst the undercard sure, but what were all the big favourites playing at? Leaving the Aussie swan off up the road while they all play, after you Claude…
Plapp obviously has form and has a TT as good, if not better than most of them.

That was impressive by Nys, he showed a level of maturity above what you'd expect from someone in their second season as a pro.

Was today a GC day? I don't think that final climb was selective enough to see any major time gaps, so it was always going to come down to a group of GC riders crossing the line together.
Plapp's attack was impressive, but he's made minimal gains on GC, even with the 4 bonus seconds he got.

It’s debatable. Stage 4 has some harder climbing mid race, but the final climb, while longer, averages just 6%. I think it’s going to be really hard for an individual to get clear, with so many top climbers marking out each other.
Imo, tomorrow is the day that will do most to finalise the GC, not that gaps should be that big.
It will probably end up with the podium being a matter of a few seconds and I suppose that’s what the organisers would hope to be the outcome.

You would think some of the GC types less confident in their TT would have tried to follow ...if they could

Just recently caught up with 'Plappy's' life in the peloton interview.
I think he probably sees a week long race with an ITT and perhaps an uncertain high altitude parcours later in the week as a real opportunity.
Having said thay I wouldn't be surprised to see Ayuso destroy him today.

Really wanted Kudus to take that

The Romandie time trial has given the GC a more final look about it.
Of course things can still change but I am not sure to what extent.
It’s going to take something special as the top 5 are all exceptional climbers.

Agree, although the next next Eddy Merckx is well placed to grab a win time bonus.

Turns out Plapp was testing new machinery.

Lenny did surprisingly well considering he looks even worse riding a TT bike and was up and down like a jack in a box all the way around.

Today’s comedy hazard of the day in Turkey was a u-turn on a dual carriageway with 2km to go that had the obvious result. Yet another win for DSM.

Cav got in a great position then seemed to have a gear issue just as he tried to launch.

Cav in a great position then dropped his chain.

Cav was in the perfect position but suffered yet another mechanical just when he should have been starting his sprint.

Never mind Cav*, you lot are all missing the really important information that notorious Viking Tobias Lund Andresen 🇩🇰 just won his third stage. Not bad for a lad who didn't have a pro win last week.
*Yeah, I know, that's just for effect, we're all watching Cav with bated breath

Considering he's supposedly there as one of Jakobsen's lead out men, he not doing too shabby at all :)
1 -
Well he's got the 11 jersey so I reckon they were planning it ;)

He was fast on the wet downhills

Weird tactics by Ineos. Bernal attacked with around 5km to go and for some reason Carlos Rodriguez dragged everyone across when Ayuso looked to be struggling
0 -
Lipowitz attacks, Carapaz follows and Rodriguez closes. Ayuso dropped.

Carapaz now solo

Ayuso has blown completely
