Only 31 riders finished the racemy bad, some riders weren't noted when i checked, looks like 44 finishers

I thought he'd gone too early, was waiting for Vanquelin to reel him in 25 metres from the line, but he found just enough to get over the line.

There's a video doing the rounds on Twitter of Skeljmose's abandon and he looks in a seriously bad way from the cold.
Really hope he recovers ok from that. Grim.

This does surprise me a little. Not bragging but plenty of club runners here will do similar hours in the saddle in just as wet and cold weather and they are fine - you need to dress for the weather. So often pros just don't.

Most of them won't have 7% body fat.

Wondering if sleet and hail were forecast as it was clear blue skies at the start. Surely the onus is on the team to have the car loaded up with changes of jackets, gloves, arm & leg warmers etc?

You've still got to get your kit on/off while doing 45kph and holding your position in a peloton of 150 or so riders, and you might need to fetch it from a team car as well

They were talking on comms about how it is easier to start in bad conditions with all the layers on but then remove them later whereas today apparently started in good conditions and riders were having to put layers on. Also, different riders react differently in different conditions (or the same rider can react differently on different days). I got the impression the weather caught them out a bit, the wind seemed stronger than anticipated and once you get wet with windchill you just can’t get warm even when you add layers.

Stevie Williams is going to be a weapon in the GTs with a kick like that on 18% or whatever it was…
Great stuff - sometimes I forget the whole Wiggins/Sky/Froome/Geraint/Ineos/Pidcock thing and think it’s still 20 years ago - so when a British rider squeezes into the top 20 of a classic, I’m like “oi oi - this guy could be a solid domestique pick for the Vuelta/Giro - maybe even the Tour - if someone drops out”

A lot of media are the same. The Guardian, of whom you'd expect better, are calling him the first British winner. He's not even the first Welsh winner.

Looking forward to watching it

?? What other British rider has won it? As far as I can tell he's the first (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/La_Fl%C3%A8che_Wallonne)

Both Nicole Cooke and Emma Pooley have won it.

Of course. Thank you.

They won the women's race unless I'm missing something?

Yeah different race - in the context of watching/writing about men's cycling I don't think it's sexist to assume the "men's" in front of the race name. If I'm watching womens football I talk about Chelsea, Arsenal, the FA Cup etc I don't preface it all with "women's" .

A Danish interview with Skjelmose on his abandon - Skujins had gone back for his rain jacket but UAE rode at that point and he tried to keep at the front. Didn't get his jacket on until Mur and it was too late, stopped at the top of Mur the second time.
He's been out today training/reconning the last part of LNL
