Seemingly trivial things that cheer you up

Hedging bets and doing a € dump at 1.17 into the French a/c for the new roof. Will keep an eye on which way it goes in the next few weeks for the rest of it. Vaguely amused that the incompetence of the Tories and the likelihood of Starmer getting in isn't wobbling the market in the least at the moment.

That reminds me - fancy a game?

After last night's episode, I'm reminded of the saying "Happiness is a dry fart".

Are you sure?

I'm rates about 1,200 on chess.com. Are you a Grandmaster or something?

Looks like it from the rating on the game image he posted!

That's a puzzle but in any event, you improve by playing people better than you. I'll take a peek at his rating on chess.com if he gives me his username but I'll have a go anyway.

.
The pic says his rating is 2501

I saw that. As mentioned above, want to see his rating on chess.com so I can compare like with like and regardless, will play if he's up for it.

Feel like I'm missing something... It's a pic of chess.com

If his overall rating is the same as for the puzzle then fair enough. I don't know if that is a rating for that puzzle or an overall player rating. Are you interested chess or or are you just being being a smartarse again?

Maybe it’s Pinno just fishing and he’s caught something.😉

Genuinely thought you couldn't see the picture or something. I'll leave you to it 🙄

OK fair enough, thought you were being sarcastic.
I'll drop Pinno a line.

Nah, don't bother, his previous tenant would have dropped him several.

Putting on a 'significant birthday' bash (albeit on the wrong day) at the local pub and seeing lots of old friends (the oldest being 92), then going to the pub with old uni friends (and being reminded how much two of them enjoy their beer still), and then eating roadkill (very fine venison) with a good red wine to finish off the day. Quite satisfying too to have done the catering for 40 for about £200, and everyone was stuffed. The best pub in the world gave me the venue for free.
And the sun should be out tomorrow, as well as the knees, for a bike ride.
Nice to forget all the other shit for a while.

Possibly the most heart warming post of 2024 to date.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.Veronese68 wrote:PB is the most sensible person on here.1 -
Seeing some friendly chit-chat on Facebook between a young musician friend who was in a couple of my ensembles 20 years ago and (the) Hans Zimmer, for whom she plays percussion frequently and got into the credits for the Dune soundtrack.

I change my car's oil myself.
I've been buying the fully synthetic stuff and paying around £30 for the 5 litre bottles, this year it was going to be £35!
But I've found I can get it in 20 litre drums, and these cost £62. 4 times the amount for less than twice the cost.
Cheered up.
The older I get, the better I was.0 -
Just reading about someone who a climbing accident and had problems with the rescue services because they wanted a location from what3words.
So someone recommended using https://www.fourkingmaps.co.uk/

My garden is the best of the ones for my house, but not really offensive enough for my taste.

I get mildly annoyed that oil is now sold in 2 or 4 litre containers. Most cars require 4.5 litres for a change so a 5 litre container was pretty much perfect. It’s expensive enough to matter now too.

Things that cheer me up - Double bow shoe lace knots.
Pulling one end of the lace and the knot effortlessly undoes. It makes me feel peaceful and calm.
Sometimes. Maybe. Possibly.

The Berluti knot is the way to go, though it relies slightly more on nimble fingers than a normal knot. Good for walking boots too.

Having non-privatised Scottish Water: service response levels not dictated by moneygrubbing accountants obvs.
Discovered at weekend a probable wastewater blockage problem, with some backup surface ponding. Phoned in yesterday morning to report, guy was on site yesterday afternoon, street drain blockage cleared. Excellent service. Also found some metres down the street by neighbours a broken collapsing pipe section which will need excavated and replaced, issue logged; on site this afternoon??
Diametric opposite of brother's experience of similar issue with Thames Water.

Skylarks chattering from height when walking passed certain fields. Earth would be right mediocre without observing wildlife.
Perhaps life for the creator would be mediocre without the expanse of variety?
