I think by any metrics yesterdays 56kmh prologue is bl00dy fast ....he made the sprint look childishly easy

Thanks for the link. It looks like Astana have put some work into their train in the off season, that looked very organised. Good to see Lutsenko up there doing his bit, not his usual role.

Interesting to see Mørkøv as second to last man, with Bol the final engine and massive wind-break. I wonder whether that's about using Mørkøv's nous earlier on or just that Bol is quicker and chunkier to hide behind?

Mørkøv was the plan, but he had a flat as explained below :)
“On paper it was an easy stage and we tried to control it. But with a climb in the middle of the stage the peloton divided in a few groups with Mark riding with the sprinters two minutes behind the front group. Alexey Lutsenko and Harold Martín López did absolutely fabulous job, closing two minutes in just 30 km and bringing Mark Cavendish back in front. In the lead-out we made a small change, leaving Cees Bol as the last wheel for Mark. In the first stage it was Mørkøv, but today he got a flat tire in a wrong moment and had to chase the group for a long time, spending a lot of energy. In general the lead-out train, all the guys worked out perfectly and Mark just finished the job with a solid victory. It was a great day for us as a team”, – added Vasilis Anastopoulos, Head of Performance of Astana Qazaqstan Team.

Mads P monstered them all in Provence today. He dragged 9 other riders (inc. all GC threats) the last twenty odd km to catch the lone breakaway rider, despite getting tag-team attacked by Arkea, then beat them all in the uphill sprint. Not the biggest names in the sport, but he was different gravy. That's also three out of three stages in Provence and his 5th season win in 7 race days so far. Yes, it was absolutely filthy weather 😅

Phenomenal by Pedersen. Really made it look like a man among boys. Wonder what that means for MSR and Flanders/Roubaix. He seems the best he has ever been. WVA and MvdP might be as well though.

There's a way to go to MSR. Let's see how Paris-Nice looks for him. But last year he was drafted in to MSR at the last moment and got a 6th place, this year he's been training on the Poggio already. I doubt anybody is holding MvdP's wheel there if he's in form though

Is he peaking too early though? Roubaix is still really far away. Then again, who even knows if this is a peak? he might be winning while being at 90%.

Training races are all relative. Mads could be at 85% and everyone else at 80%.
In general, Boonen for example would have his best years when he was burying everyone in the training races, and if he was not he wouldn't be as good whereas Cancellara was more peaky in a season, so it also varies from person to person.

If last season is anything to go by, Mads is a form-maintainer rather than a peaker. Wins from February (Besseges), March (Paris-Nice), a load of good placings in the classics (including animating several of them and a 3rd in Flanders), win in the Giro, win in the Tour, animates the World's and finishes 4th, wins Tour of Denmark, wins Bemer and then starts to droop a little - no stage win in Deutschland and then a few placings in minor one day races
