Morning les saltimbamque
(What a lovely word. Pronounce it if you can.)
Dull and wet here. Snow at the weekend perhaps, so they say.
Abs today 'n' chores, admin, after coffee - whisked to perfection; fuck the pedants.

Morning
Dank here and supposed to rain at some point. So it might be the turbo rather than outside. Got to take Smartie the cat to vet later, he’s not looking good and might be on his way out.

Would be easier if you spelled it correctly. 🙄
Glorious day, no wind for a change. Some committed loafing about, interspersed with jobs avoidance activity (shed stuff).

Morning car dropped off for M.O.T hopefully rear door that doesn’t open won’t be too expensive to fix.

Somewhat breezy out there so I'm staying in the cave making use of my little coffee machine in between Teams calls and mitigating tax. Mrs. 666 and I decided that there was too much of the moss clearing and we CBA to do the rest so have given the task to the handyman who's here anyway doing a spot of decorating.

Odd as it was copy/pasted from some French text.

Morning all. Thanks for the BD compliments yesterday.
Grey, gloomy and warm here. Rode the bike in today. Might be an interesting ride home.
Definitely feeling "all my fives" today
Sometimes. Maybe. Possibly.

Working as usual today, physio later followed by taxi to football.
Soup for lunch has left me sweating like a pig!

Afternoon folks,
Definitely turbulent out there, a rather slow wobble in as a result. People going the other way were all doing about 100mph. Should get home quickly at least.
Usual guff in the orifice, big boss has now told the managers about the thing that I've known about for a couple of months, but they aren't allowed to tell anyone, so I'm still acting dumb. For some reason that's remarkably easy.
Glad to see you're not working TLW

I'm sure there's some rule that says it will be a headwind on the way home too.

All I know is there's no such thing as a tailwind, it's just that sometimes i feel really strong 😁

Chain wear advice please
Belatedly bough a chain wear tool 0.75 slots in easily 😕 Haven’t had any trouble with gear changes, do you think I’ll get away with just a new chain?
11 speed, are all new chains equal?
Pinno, מלך אידיוט וחרא מכונאי0 -
How old is your cassette? If it's newish, stick a new chain on, see if it skips. If it's old, leave the current chain and cassette until the end of the winter, replace both in spring, and remember to check the chain wear more frequently.

Thanks. Cassette, just under two years old.
I will check more often now I have the tool 👍

Well that was a bloody miserable ride home. Gusty high wind. Steady Rain. Lots of traffic. T'riffic.
Sometimes. Maybe. Possibly.

No, you need a new bike

what hoppy says, plus...
a ruler is probably more accurate than some of the chain measuring gadgets, easy enough to do, see...
btw if the cassette is pricey, it can be worth getting a few chains and swapping them around every so often for a clean, this way they all wear slowly together, and swapping wheels is reliable/fast with each having it's own cassette
using, a finger-removable link like a wipperman connex makes it easy - this is what i do, a sram red cassette is around 200 quid, a chain about 30, each wheel has it's own cassette, and i've got several chains, just need to remember to swap around every 2-3 months, also i use wax lube for low wear
but if the cassette cost isn't much more than a chain and you don't swap wheels, it may make more sense to just run them together until they start skipping

I could get another cycle to work voucher 🤔

New cassette £35-50, so not too bad.
chainset more expensive, should I worry about damaging that by running chain and cassette until skipping?
Pinno, מלך אידיוט וחרא מכונאי0 -
Another way of getting more wear out of your cassette, is buy new chain and cassette. Use it for a couple of months then put old cassette back on and it should work ok.

I can’t remember ever replacing a chainset or the rings. Mind I’ve was thinking about it with my Dura ace one on my best bike. But those kind people at Shimano gave me a new one.🤣🤣🤣🤣

Well today turned fairly sh!t. We are now catless home, Smartie as well his thyroid problems, confusion, incontinence and very distressed at times meowing. Turned out to be going blind and in the early stages of kidney failure.
So it’s going to be strange not having a cat around as we had them for twenty years then a 6 month gap then another 17 years.

Back to the transmission woes Seano - best advice is keep it as clean as you can. I wax too (ooer missus). and it is so easy to clean a waxed chain and nice to know SG took my advice and bought a Wipperman connex quick link. 😁

Sorry about the cat webboo.
Try a chain, but have a cassette handy Seano. And don't lose your nuts.
Oh, and look at WhatsApp
